We all left and got something to eat. When we walked into The Big Texan Steak Ranch, we were overwhelmed by a strong countrylike smell and feeling. The waitress showed us to our table with some other people on the team. Treyton and Finnley were there, along with Zack, Liam and Taylor. We all ordered and while we waited, the boys talked about football. Apparently Liam started talking to me, but I didn't notice as I was reading a fanfic on Wattpad. The next thing I know, Ethan rips my phone out of my hands.
"Heyyyyyyy! Ethan what the hell! What the fuck was that for?"
"Chase asked you a question Mak."
He asked me how volleyball was going. I told him it was going okay. We've played a lot of games, winning some, losing others.
"How long have you been playing volleyball Kenzi?" One of the other boys asked me.
"Well, I've always played around with volleyball since I was 5, but I wasn't actually on a team until I was like seven or eight."
I got a couple of responses like "cool" or "nice", but then the topic got changed to something else. I didn't mind that the team was talking about something else now. People think that because I'm a star player on my volleyball team, I love being the centre of attention, but in reality I couldn't care less. I actually like when everyones attention is focused towards something else.
When I noticed that Ethan still had my phone, I tapped him on the shoulder. His head turned towards me and our eyes locked. I hadn't realized how beautiful his eyes were. I guess you could call them hazel but it's more than that. The different colours were a lot more rich and you could easily tell them apart. One part a deep brown, another a sapphire blue. He also had a beautiful forest-like green. His eyes had a smokey look to them, and were so breathtaking you could get lost in them with ease.
"Mak? Are you okay?"
His voice snapped me back to reality.
"oh yeah, can I have my phone back?"
You could tell that I was flustered, my face turning a light rose colour. He gave my phone back to me, so I put in my Airpods and scrolled through Tiktok while the others finished their food.
