Still Ethan Pov
The next day I went to Mak's house at around 6 in the morning to pick her up for her volleyball game. Her stepmom Stephanie greeted me at the door.
"Come on in Ethan! Kenzi's just finishing getting ready."
"Ok thanks Steph."
She came down the stairs a little bit later with her sister Madi.
"I'm ready!"
"You look great." I told her.
"Ok Kenzi, we will be there as soon as possible. Just after we drop Matt off at practice."
Mathew is Maks brother and Madisyn is her twin sister.
"Bye guys. Have fun at practice Matt." and off we went.
We were in the lead, and the game was going pretty well. Until Stephanie got a phone call from Matt's coach. She tapped my shoulder to get my attention.
"Ethan, can you please drive the girls home after the game? There's an emergency at Matt's practice."
"Yeah of course. Is everything okay?"
"I'm not sure. Apparently Matt got in a fight and he got hit in the back of the head."
"damn, well you should go make sure he's ok. Bye."
"See you."
After the game, I told Mak about her brother. We got in the car, and Madi called their dad to see if there were any updates. Mak was starting to get really anxious. Even though they argued a lot and she hasn't known him for very long, you could tell she really cared about him. I held her hand all the way to the hospital in hopes of providing some form of comfort.
We met their parents in the waiting room of the hospital.
"Is he okay?" Mak asked her dad. You could hear the worry in her voice.
"He's unconscious right now, but I think he's going to be ok."
We all waited in the waiting room, Chase and Stephanie occasionally taking turns checking on him. Me and Mak scrolled on tiktok together for a bit. She laid her head on my shoulder and fell asleep. After a bit, Matt walked out of his hospital room, Chase and Staphanie at his side.
"Hey bro, are you okay?"
"Yeah I'm just a little sore." He tapped Mackenzie on the shoulder to wake her up.
"Matt! Omg are you okay?!" She jumped in his arms and started sobbing in his chest.
