Ch.1-What are these things?

Y/N POV
I was walking home from school with my best friend B/F/N cause we live right next to each other along with Carl Grimes although we don't really talk unless we have projects together. But me and B/F/N always saw him basically skipping home, but today was different? He had his head down and there wasn't his normal smile. "Y/N!Hellooooo earth to Y/N?!" My head shot up from B/F/N calling my name. "Huh- oh yeah sorry B/F/N I was just thinking..." I said in a bit of on upset tone. And they definitely noticed. " What's on your mind then?" They said in a some what comfortable voice. " Ok, well I am thinking about Carl."  I said looking at him and his in-normal behavior. " Ohhhhh... You like him, don't you?" I look up so fast I'm surprised I don't have whiplash. "WHAT NO WAY!" I yelled trying to make my point clear...which didn't work.Not even a bit. " Sureeeee" B/F/N said. " No really! He just seems...sad." I said also feeling sad.I might not talk to him but he always brought up everyone's mood with his bright and cheerful one. Obviously he could even have his bad days.But this is far worse and usually we would always get partnered up with one another, and he would tell me what's wrong and why he is acting like this.But he hadn't said nothing all day.So I was definitely worried about him. " How do you know?! You don't even talk to him!" They said getting annoyed by this whole Carl thing and also the blank stare. "Actually, I do talk to him here and there..I'm gonna ask him what's wrong." With that last sentence I was already walking towards his home with him. " Hey Carl." I said in a normal tone but also excited. " Oh..Hey Y/N. What are you doing you just passed your house like three houses ago?!" He said confused. " Yeah I know I just wanted to check in on you..you seem-" before I could finish he started crying and stopped dead in his spot. " I-I can't do this no more!" He cried out now on his knees in front of his own house. " It's okay Carl, I am always here if you ever need me." I said in a caring voice. " M-my dad, he was sh-sh-shot.." he said clinging onto me and holding so tight I thought I was about to explode! " Hey,hey,it's okay,you don't always have to hide from the tears. Is that why you didn't talk?Cause you knew you would cry if you did?" I said sadly. " Ye-yeah...I thought if I stood quite it would help ease the pain but it hurts!" He said now crying even louder and heavier. " CARL!" I heard from behind us. " Carl oh my gosh what happened?!" Oh no. " Oh hello misses Grimes, if I may say something I am wondering if I can stay here with Carl for a few minutes." I said in the bravest voice I could muster up. " I am sorry but hunny you need to go home." She said in a worried voice and mostly scared. " What's wrong?" I asked and she knew I knew something else was seriously wrong.So she picked us up and took us both inside and locked the door behind her in a blink of an eye. " M-mom what's wrong?!" Carl said even more worried and sad than before which I didn't know was humanly possible. 
" Miss Grimes,all do respect I would like to know what's happening." I said with a shaky voice which she knew I was trying to be brave but also not hide how scared I actually was. *ringggg* the phone scared us all.I jumped back and hugged Carl out of fright and once I noticed I let go and apologized. Miss Grimes picks up the phone and I heard my mother's voice freaking out. " H-Hi is Y/N there?! B/F/N said she was walking with Carl." My mom said loudly. I looked at Carl then at miss Grimes. "Oh yes she is here don't worry I will bring her to you soon I need to make sure she has something to protect herself with." Miss Grimes said in a nervous voice. " Oh thank you so much Lori!" My mother said with gratitude.

Carl POV
What's happening now?! First dad and now this!? It's all happening to soon. What's that on the Tv I walk towards the living room and look at the Tv and saw people eating each other...no...no..this can't be happening this is wrong...what about dad! " MOM!" I yelled for her.The first person in here was Y/N holding a knife up to see if someone or...something was attacking me or trying to.She put it down and ran to me and looked to see if I was hurt. " Oh my gosh! Carl I thought you were hurt or something even worse what the heck were you thinking yelling like that!" She said annoyed and scared. But I ignored her and went to my mom " What about dad!?" "He is still in the hospital and what if one of those things get him!" I said talking now and crying even more. Me and my mom look to Y/N walking back from the Tv and turning to look outside.That's when we all saw it.People eating and tearing each other apart. " No, I need to-to go make sure my family is safe!?" Y/N said absolutely terrified. " Th-thank you for trying to keep me safe and I hope you all are safe and be careful please.Bye Carl," she gave me a hug "Bye Miss Grimes." She said giving my mom a hug to. " Hunny- wait!" My mom said trying to stop Y/N from going outside alone. She runs outside and bolts dodging everything that tries to get her. I was shocked and so was my mother that was until she got a grip on herself locked the door and looked out the window to see if she made it safe and sound.She did, Y/N made it with-in a few seconds. *knock..knock* is all we here.My mom hesitated to open the door. "Sh-Shane Oh my god what's wrong I-is he okay?!"
