This is based off the new year of 2022. We're gonna pretend he wasn't still snapped in 2022 and didn't come back the next year. Kay? M'kay.

"Y/n, when I said I wanted something interesting to happen in the new year, this isn't what I meant." I grumbled, killing off another Hydra agent.

"What?" She chuckled, "You don't want to go in fighting?"

I sighed, dropping the agent from my hand and wiping the leftover blood on my pants. I had a plan this year, I'd start it off right this time. As soon as the ball would drop, I'd kiss Y/n, and start a better future. It was simple. But of course, nothing ever goes as planned. It's always ruined by someone or something coming after me, Y/n, or the team. I'm sick of it.

"I'm tired of fighting. I just thought it'd be different."

Y/n smiled a little, twisting the neck of he target until he fell limp, "There's never such a thing as, 'No more fighting.' There's always something or someone to fight, but, that dosen't mean there isn't ever a break. Besides, the ball drops in 20 seconds, if we hurry the new year doesn't have to be started in a fight."

All I could do was nod. I always listened to her, she was never wrong and I trusted her with my life. As well as she did me. She's always been there for me and I loved her, so much that sometimes I couldn't stand it. I knew she had me wrapped around her finger, but I did with her too. It was like a trust bond of some sort. As we finished off two more guys, we sprinted to the Jet and took off. Y/n pulled out her phone and started bouncing up and down.

"5, 4, 3, 2, 1! Aha! Beat the stupid timer and still made to the ball drop. That's speed right there." She smiled at me, showing me her phone then setting it down, "I feel like Flash. I bet Clint couldn't have pulled that off."

I breathed out a short laugh, putting the Jet on Autopilot and setting it for the Tower.

"The plan was stupid. But I guess if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have made it either." I half smiled, cupping her face in my hands, "Happy New Year's, doll."

She smiled back, pressing our lips together. It was a sweet but slow kiss, a classic move she's always made but made me swoon more nonetheless. When we both pulled away for air, she pressed her forehead to mine, closing her eyes and resting there for a moment.

"Happy new year, Buck."
