Heather was in front of Darrius stables as soon as the huge doors opened, she didn't know how miss grumpy pants would react if she saw her roaming around her stables but she didn't care.

She kept herself out of the way while she watched the workers do their daily chores, no one paid her any mind as she poked her head in different stalls, she felt like a child in Disney land.

She knew next to nothing about horses, she grew up in the most sophisticated part of New York, her mother would break a sweat if she found out she was in a stable right now. Heather giggled when the horse she was petting licked her hand.

"Be careful, she doesn't bite but..."

Heather jumped when she heard a gruff voice behind her slightly startling the horse. "Hi. I didn't know that." Heather said still petting the horse.

"Have you taken care of a horse before?" The man who introduced himself as Bran asked.

"I haven't." Heather couldn't help the blush creeping up her neck. "This is the first time I've touched a horse actually, I was never allowed to see it up close."

Bran tsked. "That's so sad; a horse like a dog can be man's best friend. It seems you might have found one, this cutie is called Sugar." Bran gestured towards the horse that was now nibbling on her hair.

Heather laughed pulling away from the horses stall, Sugar followed her till she couldn't anymore, she neighed her discontent.

"Why Sugar?" Heather dragged herself out of the stall before she did anything stupid like stay there all day
.
"Because when she was born, she mistakenly stumbled upon a pack of sugar we stored away and long story short, the vet had to high tail it here." Bran guffawed; Heather couldn't help but laugh along with him. "Shelby isn't in her office yet" Bran scratched his beard in thought. "she might be in the inventory trying to find documents that relate to the one you gave to her."

"That's fine let her take her time, I'm having a lot of fun here." Heather's eyes twinkled with hidden mischief.

"I'll inform her you're here nonetheless. She hates surprises even though you're the first one we've had in years." Bran smiled warmly. "Stick with Sugar, don't go out to the open field, that's where we keep the wild horses."

"I'll try to remember everything you just said right now." Heather waved at Bran's back.

Heather didn't go back to Sugar's stall; she didn't need to be attached to an animal. She had a job to do, she couldn't involve sentiments in it.

The stable was doing better than she expected, the maintenance was top notch, the horses were well fed and very beautiful. She noticed they didn't breed them, she knew how much stables made by breeding exotic horses from the research she did the previous night, she filed that question away for later.

The workers did their jobs in sync, she was the one they mostly bumped into so she stayed close to the walls and watched them.

"Hello, are you new here?" A boy who couldn't be more than seventeen asked her with a frown on his face.

"Uh- uh"

"I had to ask because you've been bumping into some of the workers and some of them weren't too happy about it, so I've been asked to fill you in on how we work."

He walked away before Heather could get a word out, she bit her lip and followed behind. "I'm Fabian, you can call be Fabe, everyone calls me that."

Heather nodded still not saying a word. Fabian showed her how they fed the horses and even allowed her feed some of them.

Heather tried not to cringe when she got dirt in her nails, she took a deep breath when she noticed some of the feed had stuck to her clothes.

"Oh yea, that's another thing, you can't dress this fancy to work." Fabian scrutinized her clothes with his eyes. "You need to get new clothes."

"Obviously so" Heather winced when she tried to brush it off which only made it worse, her shirt became an ugly looking canvas. Heather worked with Fabian for the rest of the day, she had gotten used to the dirt, she didn't even want to know how she looked or she might have a mental breakdown, she felt like she had dived into a bowl of mud.

"The last stop is the open field." Heather tried to remember what Bran said about the open field but her brain was too tired.

She carried the buckets Fabian held out to her, they were heavy, her arms hurt from all the heavy lifting she had been doing but it felt good, she felt good.

"The horse is on the other side so we have to hurry, this one isn't as nice as the others we've been feeding."

Fabian wiped the sweat from his forehead. "If anything goes wrong just stand still at least that's what Mr. Bran told us to do."

Heather didn't understand half of what he said but she walked into the open field with him, they had just finished pouring the feed when someone shouted from the fence. "She's coming; you guys need to get out of there!"

Fabian took off towards the fence, Heather froze in shock, she watched Fabian fly over the fence yet her legs wouldn't move.

She heard people yelling above the pounding of her heart, she felt a rush of adrenaline when she caught sight of the majestic creature galloping towards her still she stayed frozen in place.

The horse pawed the ground few feet away her, it shook its head taking slow steps towards her, Heather gripped the bucket in her shaky hands.

She suddenly remembered everything Bran said about the open field, this was a wild horse, it was beautiful yet it was nothing like Sugar, it had this edge to it that none of the other horses had.

The horse was in her personal space now, she walked round Heather pawing at the ground and neighing, she did that for minutes before she shoved Heather's shoulder with her nose.

Heather didn't know when she hit the ground, the adrenaline had faded off and her vision was blurry. The last image in her head was the horse hovering over her.
