I got out of the shower, wrapping a towel around my body after wringing my hair out. I reached for my door handle, my fingers just touching the cold metal as a sharp knock at the door rang out. My heart dropped to the floor and the room began to spin a little. I managed to keep quiet, which made me think -- at least for a second -- that I could pretend I wasn't there. I realized that was pretty fucking stupid considering the water had just been running and the light was on. I was obviously in the bathroom.
A voice sang out from the other side, "Meeeeeeeeredith, it's meeeeeeee."
"Jesus fucking Christ," my heart rate immediately slowed down after I identified who the voice belonged to. "Clay, I've told you a million and a half times not to do that when I'm getting out of the shower."
"How would I know that you're in the shower if I literally just got here," he said, swinging the door open. I was glad I had the towel around me securely.
I punched his shoulder. "Don't just welcome yourself in, shithead! I could've been naked!"
"I gave you more than enough time to make yourself decent, don't complain," he laughed, stepping back out of the bathroom as I gestured for him to give me room. "Can you hang out with me?"
"No," I motioned for him to turn around, and once he did I pulled on some clothes. "Is that why you're here?"
He followed me to the bathroom so I could put on deodorant and comb my hair. "Yes," he said, leaning in the doorframe as he watched me get ready as quickly as I could.
"I have class until like 2:30, but I'm free after that," I said, leading us out the living room so I could put my shoes on, gather my things, and leave -- hopefully.
"Could you be free now?" he grabbed me by the wrist, stopping me in my tracks. I broke free and lead him to the front door, unlocking it and swinging it open.
"Clay," I groaned. I was using all of my strength to try to push him out of my apartment. "I have to go to class, please leave."
"Skip it, you fucking nerd," he dug his heels in. "You literally never miss class, you can miss it for one day."
"I really can't," I said, shaking my head. "I'm sorry, but I can't."
"Tell them it's for your best friend," he was begging at this point and I almost felt bad.
"'Oh, I'm sorry I missed class, professor, my idiot friend wanted me to join his stream for his little block game!' doesn't really sound too good!" I laughed, pushing him harder.
His hands caught the doorframe and he continued resisting. "Meredith, please! Tell them you're sick!"
"People in my classes probably watch you, dingbat," I rolled my eyes and finally gave up on trying to physically force him to leave. I was basically running around my living room, trying to collect my laptop and notes for class.
"I don't think they're going to snitch on you, stupid," he laughed. "I'll skip a stream one day for you, I promise. I'll let you take me to ride horses or something. I'll do anything you want, no complaints."
That offer had piqued my interest, I couldn't lie. He was right too, I never skipped class and I don't think anyone would snitch on me, even if they did manage to put the pieces together. "God damn it, Clay... fine."
"Hell yeah!" He had the stupid grin on his face that could convince me to do just about anything. It got me almost every single time. "Let's go back to mine."
"Who is going to be in this?" I hadn't really thought of this part of it, "I don't know anyone, it's going to be awkward." I had never really talked with his internet friends that much mostly because I didn't want to weasel my way into every single aspect of his life. I had my horse and school stuff and he had his gaming stuff. They were literally the only things we didn't do together, but we needed our individual spaces sometimes. It worked out well because we always had gossip for the other one too.
