meredith-

lyla-

okay i'm about to leave now, i'll be there in like fifteen

i will be asking when i get there

but okay

Exactly fifteen minutes later, the doorbell rang. I shot up to let Lyla in. She wasn't ready yet, which I was happy about. I wanted to get ready with her and gossip a little before we all went out. The boys were all drinking already in the kitchen, so I brought her in there. "Why the hell did you make me bring my Pokémon cards? They're not exactly the easiest things to lug around, Mer," Lyla asked right as we walked into the kitchen. Perfect timing. I literally couldn't have planned it any better.

"You brought Pokémon cards?" Nick said, his eyes locked on her.

"Yes, Mer told me to," she said, looking at me as she set her binders down on the counter. "Which was interesting, because she's usually couldn't give even a third of a fuck about them."

"I think I'm in love with you," Nick laughed, and Clay and I shot each other a look as he poured us some drinks.

"If you impress me, I might let you look at two things tonight, Nick," Lyla said, putting a hand on her hip. "I'm sure you can guess what I'm referring to, but I'll spell it out if I have to."

"I love you," Nick looked like he was going to pass out. "I really do."

"Okay, calm down a little," she laughed. "I'm not letting you look at my good ones. Those are at my house, hidden in their secret spot."

"Well, I bet your 'good ones' actually suck ass," Nick said, taking a sip of his drink. "So..."

"And what the fuck do you know?" Lyla said, staring him down as she grabbed her drink from Clay. "Probably nothing."

"I know a lot, actually," Nick asserted, setting the drink down and staring her down too.

"I'll have you know that I am the Pokémon queen," Lyla said, flipping open her binder. "I'd blow your God damn mind with my cards."

"Well, I'm the Pokémon king," Nick said, trying to lean over to see some of her cards. "So I highly doubt that. I'd be the one blowing your mind with mine."

"Let's negotiate... we could unite our realms," she said. She turned to George, "hi, I'm Lyla. I know I saw you at the barn but we didn't really meet. My sister would absolutely die over you, by the way."

"I'm George. And thank you, I think?" George said, sticking out his hand.

She shook his hand, then turned to look at all of us again. "Are you guys going to tell me about your little cartel operation now or later?" Lyla asked. "It's really been eating away at me."

"We're not in the cartel or the mafia, Lyla," Clay laughed. "I don't know how many more times I'll have to tell you that."

"So fucking secretive, just like the mafia. I've seen The Sopranos, I know how this works," she rolled her eyes and took a quick sip of her drink. "If you tell me what you actually do, then maybe I'll stop thinking you're in some organized crime ring. You're giving me nothing to go off of, so organized crime it is."
