"The Ghost Child. At last." Skulker levitated up, one arm holding Danny easily by the leg, dangling him upside down. All around him, the ghostly dogs sniffed and growled and barked, filling the air with noise.
"Be quiet, you stupid mutts!" Their master demanded, and they grew silent, watching with those beady red eyes of theirs.
"Hey! You stole my catch!" Tucker walked up to him, shrugging off Sam. "That's not fair."
"Hmmm? Is it not?" Skulker did not notice one of Danny's ghostly green eyes crack open and glare at him from below. "Fairness isn't how I work, though. Afterlife's not fair like that.
Sam turned the lock on her Spectre Deflector; if things got nasty, at least no ghost would be in a hurry to touch her. "Leave it, Tuck. It's not worth it."
"But- but that was our entire aim! To get the Ghost Kid!"
"Yeah, and not get yourself killed in the process."
"I tire of this. Challenge me or leave."
"Can I join in this conversation?" There was a voice from below. Skulker jumped.
"What?! That explosion had to have blasted you into next week!" His eyes widened in shock.
Danny came up out of Skulker's hands and kicked him in the face, sending him sprawling. He goes closer, smiling broadly in triumph. "That's for every time you tried to hurt my friends!"
However, he did not anticipate the Dogs. One clamped around his ankle, and dragged him down. Then, the rest were on him. Sam pushed forwards but there were just so many she couldn't do anything, not even with her Spectre Deflector.
Skulker rose. "Heel." Instantly, they all stopped, leaving a very battered Danny huddled on the grass. "A good move, but you cannot defeat Skulker. I am the greatest hunter in the Ghost Zone! Also," He paused, "Where did you put Fluff- errr... I mean that big Ghost Dog. She's my favourite."
"You mean, this one?" Jazz stood on top of a tree, and opened the Thermos. Skulker smiled. "Why, yes, that one. I like your new assistant."
"But you haven't heard the last of it!" Jazz shouts as Skulker turns around. "It comes free with this whistle."
Skulker shot around, eyes widening in fear. "You wouldn't."
Jazz brought it to her lips.
"If you do that, I, Skulker, will personally hunt you down! There will be no-"
"Leave my sister alone." Skulker turns to see Danny struggle up. "You're not hurting her, or my family, or my friends."
"That's right... err... random ghost!" Jazz's eyes flick to Sam and Tucker for a moment. "Get a load of this!"
No sound comes out of the whistle. Skulker cracks a nervous smile. "Broken. Oops, I'd better-"
Every dog's eye flashes green. "Heel." Jazz speaks. They all sit, simultaneously.
Skulker groans. "You cannot be serious."
"It's a dog whistle. You ought to know about them. Now, attack!" Skulker yelps as the dogs jump on him. He flew up, but the dogs followed him, in a rage. He pointed at Jazz, angrily.
"We will meet again, Ghost Boy, and your assistant as well!" Another, the big dog who got caught in the Thermos, took hold of his arm, then yelped when it arced with electricity. One single missile arced off and headed straight for Danny's sister, sparking and twisting and smoking.
Jazz freezes, her eyes locked, widening, on the missile. Tucker scrambles back, Sam runs forwards...
Danny jumps lamely, still recovering. "No!" He feels his powers kick in, and, acting out of instinct, summons a mini force field around the missile, distinctly green in colour. It explodes inside with a muffled bang, the green shield filling and distorting with debris. Danny struggles to maintain it.
