Danny sat in the front of Jazz's car, his arms crossed, his expression worried. His mouth worked as he attempted to say something.
Jazz slowed to a halt in the middle of a massive traffic jam, honking loudly. "What's this now?" She grumbled, reluctantly honking the Ghost Horn (GHOST ALERT! GHOST ALERT! GHO-GHO-GHOST ALERT!) "Has there been a crash or something?"
After it became apparent that nothing was moving, Jazz sat back in her seat, brooding.
Perfect opportunity to say something. "Jazz, I-" Words failed Danny as Jazz looked over at him.
Jazz rolled her eyes. "What, Danny?" She asked impatiently, making Danny stutter even more.
"I... Uh... Sorry?" It came out all wrong, so rushed. Danny facepalmed at his own stupidity.
A soft hand rested on his shoulder. "Apology accepted, little bro." Jazz beamed at him, which made Danny blush.
"But... heh... you're not angry with me? Or you never were? Or... what?"
"Hey, you're cool." Jazz shrugged. "I was angry, but now I've realised that the argument was just stupid. A big misunderstanding that blew up in our faces, okay?"
Danny smiled and rolled his eyes. "But..."
"But my argument was more sound, thought out and had more evidence" Jazz finished, rolling her eyes again, "so therefore I still won."
"Yeah, no kidding," Danny chortled, pressing a button for the FAC (Fenton Air Conditioner), and feeling a slight breeze against his face in the hot car. "You really knocked the stuffing out of Vlad. How did you manage that?"
Jazz shrugged. "Simple, really. That's what happens to people when they mess with my baby brother!" She reached over and ruffled Danny's hair, messing it up. "You could say it's my job, really."
"Ja-azz!" Danny complained, but he didn't shirk away.
"Your hair is messed up."
"No thanks to you!" Danny leaned out to have a good look through the massive wing mirrors, but groaned when he was greeted by a lack of reflection. "Ugh! What does a ghost have to do around here to check out how their hair is looking." Danny pouted at Jazz. "I feel like Dracula!"
"Half ghost," Jazz reminded him swiftly, taking out a blue hairbrush with a picture of a lightbulb on the back, "And, trust me, you are far cooler and more heroic than any creepy vampire!" She started styling Danny's hair into it's usual shape, one hand under his jaw to keep him from moving.
"Am I, though?" Danny asked, worriedly. "I couldn't save anybody last night."
"That's not your fault." Jazz finished off the final touches of Danny's hair.
"But it is my responsibility!" Danny retorted. "I'm the 'most powerful' ghost hunter in Amity Park." Danny made air quotes as he spoke.
"Your power level was measured-"
"Yeah, and because of that, I've gotta protect everyone!" Danny paused. "I don't know what I'd do if you got hurt."
Jazz grinned mischeviously at Danny. "Me, or Mom or Dad or Sam or Tucker, right?"
Danny rubbed the back of his neck. "Well, duh! But that's all the more responsibility on my shoulders."
"Our shoulders, you mean," Jazz playfully punched Danny in the arm. "We're Team Phantom, and even though you're the guy who runs around with your awesome ghostly powers, you're never going to be alone in this. I got your back, but remember that Mom and Dad and Sam and Tucker, they'd still do anything for you."
"I'm not alone?" Danny raised an eyebrow suspiciously. Jazz pulled him into a sudden, long, hard, warm hug.
"You're not alone," She repeated in a fierce whisper. "Never never never."
The moment lasted for a long time before either of them broke it. A loud honk sounded to the right of them, making both siblings jump and pull back. "Ugh!" Jazz scowled, honking rapidly (GHO-GHO-GHO-GHO-GHOST ALERT! GHOST ALERT!) "At this rate, we won't get to school until tomorrow!"
Danny suddenly sat up as an idea struck him. "I may be able to help with that." He placed both hands on the dashboard, closing his eyes tightly. When he opened them again, they were a toxic green.
"Uhhh, not sure about this..." Jazz frowned uncertainly at her little brother, who, apart from the eye trick, hadn't done very much at all.
Danny prompty went completely invisible. "Even less sure of this... Danny?"
Danny's voice still came from where he was sitting, even though he wasn't visible. "Just... trust me on this."
That was the point when the entire dashboard began to disappear, two blobs of invisibility that quickly enveloped half of the Fenton RV. Jazz started to smile as she realized Danny's intention, but then a thought struck her.
"Won't this end up like last time you tried to 'assist' me while we were driving?" Jazz, as the invisibility passed over her eyes, now could see the vehicle again, as well as her brother, still in human form, but with those bright green eyes and one hand on the dashboard, grinning triumphantly at her.
"I did it!" Danny extended his other hand for a high five, which was reluctantly taken before Jazz pressed down on the accelerator, passing straight through the cars. "And, no. I've gotten stronger since then!"
Jazz rolled her eyes. "Well, duh. At this rate, you'll surpass Vlad in no time!" She cruised through car after car, at a much faster pace than she ever usually drove at.
"Really?" Danny made a face. "After 20 years, you mean."
"No." Jazz smirked at her brother. "You know, it's only been a month, and you've already got it down to a fine art. I wouldn't be surprised if you were able to best that fruitloop all the way to Wisconsin in less than a year!"
"Ehhh..." Danny shrugged as they pulled in to Casper High. "We're he- what are they doing?"
A large crowd of students were gathered around the side walk, arms crossed, frowns set on their faces. Upon closer inspection, it was the popular group.
"Danny, like, where is he?" Paulina complained to Kwan, checking her nails.
"He made Valerie so angry at me!"Kwan agreed, standing at Paulina's right side, hanging onto her every word like a little puppy.
"I'm right here, you know!" Valerie fumed. "He made me loose my date. He made me loose my date! When that dork show his face, I swear-"
"And because of Danny's girlfriend, I got slapped in my face!" Dash interrupted, a sulky expression on his face. "How was I supposed to know she didn't like quarterbacks!"
"Danny? As in, Danny Phantom?" Tucker jumped up, PDA in hand, broken arm wrapped up in a sling.
Danny gasped. "Shiverin' spooks! You gotta hide me, Jazz!"
"We're invisible."
"I can't be invisible forever!"
Jazz smirked mischeviously. "Your wish my command."
She took out the Fenton Thermos, aimed it at her shocked brother's face, and fired.
The Fenton RV became suddenly visible as Jazz looked down the containers. "April Fools, Danny! This was far better than any prank I pulled before."
"Fink!"Came a muffled voice from within the Thermos. Jazz opened the door, a triumphant grin on her face.
"I love you too, little bro," She walked past the sea of vengeful jocks, heading for the cloakroom."I love you too."
