Hex offers to take the bags of shopping in once we arrive home, I'm thankful for it considering I'm still shaky on my legs, the rush of earlier still running through my veins.
I head straight to the shower, wanting to wash my sweaty skin as soon as possible.
I can hear Hex moving around the house, coming and in and out of the bedroom as he unpacks the bags for me.
My shower is quick and I dress even quicker as my stomach rumbles. It's almost time for dinner and I hadn't had anything to eat since lunch.
Hex is in the kitchen when I round the corner, towel drying my hair.
"I'm thinking spaghetti for dinner, what do you think?" I ask as I open the pantry. Hex is behind me at the island, his large frame catching my perphireral.
I turn around to look at him when he doesn't answer me. He's not even looking at me as he stares into one of the shopping bags. I pull my eyebrows together as I walk over to him.
"What's wrong?" I ask as I lean on the island and gaze at him. He looks at me before looking back at the bag and pulling a piece of clothing from the bag. When it unravels I realise it's the baby clothing for Josie's baby shower.
"What the fuck is this?" he doesn't say it angrily, just shocked. My heart starts to pound in my chest when I realize what it must look like.
"That's not mine" I blurt out and point at the clothing. The tiny clothing looks even smaller now that Hex holds it.
"Why-" I cut him off before his mind can wander any further.
"It's Josie's" I say before backtracking "I mean, it's for Josie's baby" I gulp down the lump in my throat. We hadn't had a conversation about babies yet and I doubt we would have it anytime soon.
I don't understand how he thought it would be mine when we haven't even been together long enough sexually for a pregnancy to develope.
"Josie's baby" Hex mumbles as he puts the baby clothes back in the bag. I don't miss the look of confusion that lingers on his face as he rubs the back of his neck.
My breath halts in my throat when I see his eyes jump from the clothes to my stomach, the action making my belly tinge in an unfamiliar feeling before I turn back to the pantry in an attempt to peel his eyes away.
"So, spaghetti?" I ask, filling the silence.
"Sounds good" Hex's deep voice grumbles from behind me.
The doorbell rings as I grab the ingredients from the pantry.
"I'll get it" Hex offers as he leaves the room. I feel like I can finally breathe as the tension between us leaves with him.
I hear Harley's voice greeting Hex as I move around the kitchen. Their footsteps can be heard coming closer to the kitchen.
"Hi Poppy" Harley greets before her eyes move to the bag that is still sitting on the island.
She gasps, her hands covering her mouth "are you-" I cut her off before she can finish her sentence.
"It's Josie's" I state firmly before picking up the bag and stomping down the hallway with it.
I breify hear Harley ask Hex what she did wrong.

Harley decides to stay for dinner, wanting to find out more about Hex's first day of work. She asked questions at rapid speed to which Hex answered with a grunt or a nod as he was too busy stuffing his face with spaghetti. The baby clothes were never brought up again. Thank god.
