I scramble up from my lying position when I hear Harley talking to the guard's outside the door.
"Remember this face because I'm going to be coming and going a lot" she says as she opens the door and points her finger around her face in a circle. They must have asked for her ID again.
Harley stops when she faces us, looking back and forth between our faces. "Uh, you two are gross" she rolls her eyes and takes a seat on the other side of the room. I turn to look at Hex and note the relaxed look in his eyes and his rosy cheeks. I can physically feel myself heat with blush from head to toe.
The next two hours are filled with laughter and talking as the extra time with Hex allows for Harley and I to give him a detailed rundown of everything on the outside world that he would need to know when he gets out. He knows about more things then I thought he would considering he's been locked in a time capsule for fourteen years. Phone's were going to be no problem considering he already secretly has one but it was obvious we'd need to work on computers and social media.
I also found out that Hex has a trade in motor mechanics that he had gotten just a year before he had been locked up and that he planned to return to the trade once he is out.
A knock at the door draws all our attention, the doctor from earlier walks in.
"Visiting hours are closed for today, you're welcome back at 9am tomorrow morning" he says before checking up on Hex and leaving when he finds no issues. I give Hex a look when I see him wince as he pulls himself to sit up further, he ignores it.
"See you tomorrow, H" Harley says as she hugs him goodbye and then fist bumps him before leaving Hex and I alone in the room.
"You'll be back tomorrow?" Hex grumbles as I stand and wrap my arms around his neck in a hug, his single hand grabs at my hip and rubs the skin underneath my shirt back and forth before I pull back. He moves his legs, making the cuffs hit the metal of the bed frame, reminding us that even though he's out of prison, he isn't free.
"Of course" I say as I plant a kiss to his lips, pulling back before he can grab me "I work in the morning though so I probably won't be in until 5 o'clock" I see the distain in his face as I step away from him, giving a wave and leaving.
"Did you want me to stay at your place tonight?" Harley asks as we walk out into the car park. Multiple things rattle in her bag as she digs through it to find my keys before handing them to me.
"No it's okay, I'll be okay" I reassure her. I appreciate it but there's only one person I want to be with at the moment and that's not possible.
The both of us get inside my car as I begin driving towards Darby's.
"Are you going back to work?" I ask as we pull into the car park. Harley pulls out her phone and checks the time, it's still early in the night and I can see through the windows that Darby's is busy.
"I should but I'm not" she says a shrug "what's the worst that could happen? Stevie won't fire me" she smirks. I try and hide my disgust but she sees it "oh come on, he's not that bad" she rolls her eyes and opens the car door.
"Thanks for coming to the hospital with me" I say as she steps out.
"You don't have to thank me Poppy" she smiles "thanks for the ride" she says as she flips her hair out of her eyes before shutting the car door. I lock the doors as soon as she walks away and towards her car, I watch to make sure she gets inside before leaving.
My mind runs wild with other possible outcomes for Hex today; none of them do anything to calm me down. I had completely forgotten to ask what had made Aaron do what he did and I make a mental note to ask Hex tomorrow when I see him.
