"Okay Oatcake, you have to wash your hands first if you want help me and Mommy." You said to you four year old daughter.
Emily took the time out of work to stay at home with since you daughter, Lilith was out from school for winter break and you promised her that you would make some cookies with her once she got home from school.
She was so eager to help and that made you laugh a bit at the passion that the four year old had. Today was her last day and as soon as she got off the bus she ran straight to the house and right into the kitchen to get to work.
"Go put in your PJs and wash your hands, then you can help Mama." You told her once more. She looked a lot like you and it was very obvious that she looked like you. Same face. Same curly coils. Same energy.
She smiled and rushed into her room. Emily laughed at her daughter. "You know she got that from you right?" Emily said while drying her hands. You leaned over on the island.
"Oh really? How is that?" You laughed as Emily made her way over to you. She cupped your waist in her hands, pulling you close. "Well, you do get excited over small things."
You playfully rose an eyebrow, "Like what?" You asked. " Do you remember last year's Christmas party at Rossi's?" Your eyes grew wide at her comment. "Now is it clicking?" She smirked.
You playfully pushed her away, "Keep those lewd thoughts to yourself Prentiss." You heard a laugh from Emily while walked away from her and turned around towards Lilith's room.
"Oatcake are you almost ready?" You shouted to get the four year old's attention. "Coming Mama!" She shouted back. "Okay! I wouldn't want to eat these cookies without you!" You shouted back.
You soon heard scurrying from the bathroom into the kitchen. You looked to see your little one standing before you. "You ready?" You leaned down to the smaller human.
She nodded profusely with a large smile on her face. You smiled back. "Okay! Let's start baking."
-
"No no honey, don't cry. It's okay." You were now holding your crying daughter. Apparently she got upset when Emily laughed at her cookie who was now distorted and funny looking from the baking process.
"Mommy is just being a meanie. Your cookie looks amazing. Mommy should be jealous at your excellent baking skills." You said, trying to explain that her cookie was perfect in its own way.
She looked up at you with a pout on her face. "Really?" She said, still upset but trying to calm down. You nodded your head. "Mommy, say sorry for making fun of chef Lilith's baking skills. If that was you, your cookie would be burnt." You told Emily.
Lilith let out a soft giggle. You have Emily a stern look. "Lilith... I'm sorry I laughed at your cookie. I should be banished from cooking. Your cookie does look amazing." She said while kneeling brown to her height and holding her hands.
"Mama is right, Mommy would definitely burn the cookies." Emily said with looking down in shame. "It's okay Mommy." Emily looked back up at Lilith. "Really? You forgive Mommy?" She asked, desperate to make the small human happy again.
Lilith nodded her head and gave her a hug. "Thank you." She said while hugging the four year old back. "Do you feel better now?" You asked Lilith. She let go of Emily and gave you a nod.
You wiped the tears away from her face. Emily lifted her up on the counter to sit her down. "Now that you feel better, let's eat the cookies!"
