The planet is burning: how will publishers respond?
Over the past three years, she'd been to many panels discussing this topic at book fairs around the world. Print books or ebooks... Environmentally friendly ink and printing processes... Wastage in the returns system and book pulping... Books about the environment: cli fi, books by environmental thought leaders and activists, picture books for children... More recently, net zero targets, the impact of COVID-19 on the cancellation of events, including the Frankfurter Buchmesse and its heavy carbon footprint as publishers gathered from all around the globe.
Beatrice gazed out of the window as the rain lashed the panes, musing on the irony of thousands of people now gathering to discuss responses to climate crisis. Including herself...
