Chapter 13

Connor's POV:

"Ali, can you stand still?" I laughed as she looked around.

"I'm so nervous. There are so many people here watching." She said shakily.

"Watching what?" I asked placing my hand on her lower back. She wore a form fitting dress that stopped mid thigh with lace over top. The lace covered her shoulders and arms.

"Watching me. Everyone is criticizing my every move."

"Why would they do that?" I asked.

"Because I'm not elegant like Tessa. I am not small and petite like your mother. I have muscle and I look awkward in this dress. I shouldn't have come." I grabbed her face in my hands and stared into her eyes.

"You are the most beautiful woman in this room right now. You look amazing and people are staring at you out of envy." I said and she smiled.

"You're sweet, Connor." She smiled and I gave her a light kiss.

"I know I am." I grinned.

"Connor what are you wearing?" My mom scolded coming over. She grimaced at my black straight leg pants and suit jacket. I had on a navy blue shirt with the buttons at the top undone and navy blue boat shoes.

"What is wrong with what I'm wearing?" I asked.

"All your brothers are wearing ties and dress shoes." She sighed.

"I'm different." I shrugged.

"I know you are. Hello Alice." My mom said smiling at her.

"Hi, Ms. Andrews, how are you?"

"I am wonderful and might I say you look lovely tonight." My mom complimented, Alice bowed her head slightly.

"Thank you, Luna." She said surprised.

"Ali. You are gorgeous, relax. Have fun." My mom chuckled touching her cheek. Alice smiled and exhaled heavily.

"Good. Have you seen your sister?" She asked.

"Outside waiting for Derek I believe." I said.

"He still hasn't come?" My mom gasped, she turned quickly and made a beeline for the front door. I turned and put my arm around Alice's shoulders.

"I told you, you look beautiful." I grinned.

Tessa's POV:

"So much for being my mate..."I sighed sticking my heel into the crack of the stone slab.

"Tess..." My mom said sitting down next to me. I rested my head against her shoulder and sighed.

"Derek Veil makes girls chase him. He gets them right into his pocket and keeps them there. That's where he had me, now I am in the trash." I said.

"Tess, you will never be trash. You are a beautiful, funny, intelligent girl that does not need to be treated like this." She said rubbing my hair. A tear fell from my eye and I wiped it across my cheek.

"No, you don't deserve to be treated like this." Someone said. I looked up and Derek stood holding beautiful pink roses and a small bag.

"What are you doing?" I asked wiping my cheek.

"I couldn't decide on what flowers you would like. I didn't know if you liked daisies- but they looked dead, or if you like roses- but then there were tulips..."He sighed heavily. I smiled and laughed lightly.

"You know me. I'm an asshole- sorry Ms. Andrews." He said quickly and my mom laughed.

"Don't worry, continue." She said excitedly. He laughed lightly.

"I'm rude to girls, I'm cocky, arrogant, I use girls. You see me all the time yet it never phased you and to be honest; that scared the shit out of me." I laughed at his comment.

"I thought; 'how the hell is this girl still here? I thought I would have scared her away. She must be crazy.' But then I realized you are crazy. When someone says something about your family you turn into this scary macho girl that makes me a little scared." He laughed.

"And when your angry you cross your arms and roll your eyes at me which drives me insane. Or when I ask you if you want food and you say 'no' but then end up eating my food after." He teased and I smiled.

"Tess, you're amazing. I have never asked someone to be my girlfriend before so I wanted to make sure it was done right." He said. I covered my mouth surprised as he walked closer and handed me the bag and flowers.

"Tessa, will you please be my girlfriend?" He asked.

"Are you serious?" I whispered taking the flowers and bag. He nodded and I smiled widely.

"Y-yes! Yes I will!" I said as he wrapped his arms around my waist. He gave me a passionate kiss and dipped down like in the movies. I laughed as my mom clapped happily.

"Aw I wish your father did that. He broke down my door and basically kidnapped me." She sighed and I laughed as Derek stared confused.

"Alright, take a few minutes I will see you both inside." She said going in. I sat down on the front steps and he sat with me.

"These flowers are beautiful." I said smelling them. I looked in the bag and pulled out a small box. I opened it up and a silver necklace with two dangling hearts rested in cotton. The hearts were small, one was pink and one was silver. The silver one said "Tess and Derek" in the little heart which was so cute.

"Aww, Derek. You're so cheesy." I laughed putting down the box. He took the necklace as I lifted my hair.

"I had to make sure it was perfect." He said clasping it behind my neck. I turned and lightly touched it against my chest.

"I hope you're not mad that I'm really late."

"No. At first I thought you were standing me up so I was pissed and I was going to rip you a new one at school on monday." I teased.

"I don't like that Tessa, she scares me." He said and I laughed.

"Don't worry. I'm not mad after that. I'm excited to show everyone that you're mine." I said resting my was against his chest.

"That's why I'm excited for monday. To walk down the hallway and hold your hand proudly."
