(I'm usually gonna skip the part at Elenas school, is that ok?)
I woke up to the same empty silence that greeted me every morning, Light was streaming through the curtains, brightening my room. I got up and stretched, and walked to the bathroom to brush my teeth and hair, my long blonde hair was hopelessly tangled. And THANK GOODNESS that is was Saturday!!!
I hated school, it was just another blank place, always learning the same thing in speech therapy, never getting it right... Also, all the homework, speech therapy, and reading assignments were keeping me from seeing Katelyn. But today was different; NO school, NO homework, NO speech therapy, today I got to see Katelyn!!! We had it scheduled for a long time, and now I finally get to see my best friend, after so long.
And there was another thing. Katelyn was more than a friend to me. She was one of the only people who could "talk" to me, one of the only people who understood me, Katelyn was the person who was always... there for me. She knew what it was like for me. she was ALSO the... complete opposite of me.
Katelyn was cautious, where I would always jump in without testing the water. She always stuck to her "plain Jane" diet, where I tried new things, went as far as doing the smoothie challenge (😂)! But that never got in the way of our friendship. In a way, it helped our friendship. Katelyn was like... (what's the word, help me I'm panicking! What shld I writeeee)
The bungee cord. When I went to far, when I jumped over the edge, she was there to pull me back in line. She saved me before I hit the bottom. But, even when she is cautious, I knew that if she wanted to, she could become as sharp as a dagger. Once, before I went deaf, me and Katelyn were jumping off big rocks into a river, and some boy from the bottom called her a "chicken" because she didn't want to jump. And Katelyn jumped right to the bottom and smacked him! He recovered quickly, and started swimming towards Katelyn, but she was already getting ready for her next move. Now was MY turn to save HER. I dragged her out of the water before she received a black eye. Katelyn was also very defensive of me. If anyone so much as muttered anything rude about my deafness, Katelyn was there. But her outbursts were pretty rare, not changing her careful personality.

I was reading on my kindle app on the phone, when it started buzzing with a txt from Katelyn.
"I'm here" i rushed down to the door and greeted her in ASL:
"HI KATELYN. IM SO GLAD YOUR FINALY HERE"
"SAME" she signed back.
"WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO TODAY?" She asked,
"WANT TO GO TO THE PARK?" IV BEEN COOPED UP FOR THE PAST DAY." Katelyn smiled. We both loved it at the park, (not a playground) where we could just sit down at a picnic table and catch up. The flowers seemed to wave at us and the small trees looked like they were dancing... It was as beautiful as it always was. On the way there, we signed, as usual, and started a conversation about school. We walked by a group of boys playing football, and then, as we passed, something in Katelyns eyes changed... From happy and joyful, to full of furry. And she turned and started walking up to the boys.
