Faces blurred in my mind, memories replayed themselves in my dreams... The most painful ones. The ones who made me wonder if life was worth living. I was swept off me feet, flying through thick darkness, hearing all the insults that never reached my ears because o f my deafness. Another image popped into my mind... One that I didn't remember from my childhood, and then I realized that it was real. I sat in a hospital bed, in the same outfit that I wore on my walk; Jeans and a plain pink t-shirt. I had no idea what was going on, and then I noticed for the first time, my parents sitting in the chair next to me. They realized I was awake, and started signing in a soothing way, telling me that it was ok.
"THE NEIGHBORS FOUND YOU OUTSIDE, UNCONSCIOUS. YOU CUT YOUR ARM PRETTY BADLY AND NEEDED STITCHES."
And for the first time I noticed the throbbing pain in my arm.
"WE RUSHED YOU HERE BECAUSE YOU WERE BLEEDING BADLY."
I reached for my phone, and thankfully it was still in my pocket. I pulled it out and stared in dismay; the screen was shattered, and it wouldn't turn on.
"WHAT HAPPENED?!?!" I frantically signed. They explained that I fell face first and hit my head, and at first I couldn't process what was going on...
.
When I FINALLY got to go back to my house, i collapsed onto my bed, trying to remember what had happened. I tried to remember the past day... But it all felt like a smudge; like a hole in my mind. There was something about Katelyn... Katelyn. I have a friend named Katelyn. I knew that, and I knew my two parents, and that i was deaf... But, what had happened... Then I fell asleep. I dreamed about being able to hear. I dreamed about why everybody teased me so much... And most of all, during the night, all the memory's that were out of place fit back into the empty shelf. most of all, i dreamed of Katelyn. And the agonizing look in her eyes as the image faded, and i was left to stare at nothingness. Nothing felt right. Nothing looked right. I knew I didn't belong in this world. this world did this to me. the world didn't want me, and neither did anything else. I was just natures joke, natures mistake.
I was just a mistake, and everybody knew it. Including Katelyn.
