After weeks of travel, the deLos Reyes family finally reached the mountains Ernesto's former colleague described. Y/N learned that they were going to a town called Encanto. The name sent a chill down her spine because from where they came from, engkanto meant something not human. Like a siren, or a soul, or a dwarf. Engkanto meant something unnatural.
Y/N pitied the horses they borrowed from the previous town. That town was dreary and bleak like a ghost town, she thought that was Encanto.
"Y/N, look at that butterfly!", Butch giggled on the saddle. Y/N chose to walk after sitting on the saddle with Butch for so long. She smiled and held her bother's leg to make sure he won't fall with all his fidgeting.

Dolores knew every sound in town. She knew whose voice was who's and which bathroom flushed. Her gift let her know every piece of gossip in town and yet her gift could sometimes be a curse when she would hear things she didn't want to like couples doing whatever it was they were doing in private. Dolores' gift is called a gift for a reason. She was the first to know when something new happened in town. She was the first to know when somebody needed help.
So there she was snuggled up to Mariano on the hammock when she heard unfamiliar voices from the direction of the mountains. She frowned, Mariano, noticed. "What's wrong, mi amor?", he asked. She only held out her palm as a gesture to wait. She tuned out everything else and focused on those noises.
She heard hoove steps. Maybe donkeys? Or horses? Then she could hear the clinking of bottles against each other and against wood. She then refocused and heard a little boy's chatter and an older girl's voice.
"Malapit na ba tayo, Tay?", she said. Dolores frowned and gestured for Mariano to stand up. She didn't understand the language but she knew that the girl sounded tired.
"Sige lang, hija", an adult man said, he sounded even more tired. "Ang sabi ni Agustin sa kanyang sulat na kailangan nating lakbayin itong bundok upang makarating tayo sa Encanto", Dolores straightened up more. She still didn't understand the language but she did get hija, Agustin, and Encanto .
"What's wrong, my love?", Mariano brought a hand to her chin and made her look up. Dolores gave a small smile and gave him a peck on the cheek. "Someone needs help", she said before calling for Antonio.
"Yes?", he came out of his room atop his Jaguar.
"Send a bird to the mountains, near the direction of the crack. Someone needs help getting into town". The boy smiled and turned to the nightingale on his shoulder.
"You heard her, go!", he said. He felt nice being useful.
Abuela Alma and Auntie Julieta came out of the kitchen.
"Who needs help, my child?", Abuela asked.
"A family, Abuela. A man, a girl around Mirabel and Camilo's age and a boy around Antonio's", she said. Antonio visibly perked up at the thought of a new possible friend. Mirabel and Mirabel walked into Casita. The Mirabel on the right shifted back to Camilo, "You called?", he asked with swagger.
"Shush", Dolores dismissed him. "Tia, the man seems to know Tio Agustin", Dolores turned to Julieta who hummed, before going up to their room where her husband was doing paperwork.
The nightingale came back and was now chirping ecstatically in Antonio's ear.
"Uhuh? Uhuh? Okay!", everyone turned to him as he explained. "There are only three of them but they have a lot of luggage. One of the horses said that everybody was tired and have been traveling from the other village since the morning and they haven't had lunch yet and -"
