Winds Run

Splashing water filled the air, a teenage girl playing in the stream at the mountain's base. The cool droplets rejuvenated her, as the sounds of birds and frogs refreshed her. Running down the stream with the current, little silvery fish followed her running. Disturbing up the water while the light flowed through her, it was simply a magnificent time to be alive.

Reaching the deep river ends, Mapi excitedly jumped in. Water flowing in her thick curly hair, her dark brown skin embracing the cool water stream. Leaping out of the water like a dolphin, accompanied by small yellow sharks with giant wing fins. Leaping out in rhythm and song with her, waves rising and falling down. While her yellow dress and cloak flowed behind like a fish's fins.

Gracefully she glides along with a large furry mammal, with a long giant beak and tail. Lazily disturbing for giant swimming shrimps to eat, gulping them whole in a giant feast. Above her flies little strange birds, beautiful blue faces and teeth on long beaks.

As she swam below two interconnected canopies, watching a family of little strange creatures with long tails and three face-tentacles. Chirping and crossing the canopies to avoid the waters below, waters swimming with predators of all kinds. As she surfaced she watched a strange little fish scanning the surface above them, looking for insects to leap after.

The stream was nearing the end of the forest edge, flowing out into a vast grassland. Alongside the river huge geese and strange shelled rats drank, little brown seabirds picked for worms. Standing tall beyond the grasses, giant herons scanned the land, towering over any beast.

It was all fun and games until she noticed something in the sky, a flying dark silhouette. Thick and heavy and with a red cape, it was a karkan just not the ones that live here. As it was fumbling in the sky, it tried to fix what seemed to be a bag. A couple pieces of paper fell from his bag, slowly descending towards the river.

Once it soared into the distance, Mapi swam to where the paper dropped. Slowly drifting along the leaf litter. Grabbing it from the river and hauling herself from the river. Mapi shakes off the water from her clothes and paper. Dry now she takes a look, on it were strange things.

It looked like the boats from the coastal tribes, but larger and grander. Sails like the wings of albatrosses, adorned with ornate depictions. On the backside were strange doodles of the various tribes, albeit a little messy. Yet the details were meticulous and beautiful... almost like they were real.

But she was smarter than that. Probably some overactive imagination, she's seen some karkans with it.

Stuffing them into the pocket on her fuzzy little dress, she continued prancing around. The shelled rats bumbling around like usual, in the tall grass a lone karkan takes in the air. With a band of white running from their beak to their back. Holding a spear on their talons as they stood on their wings.

Turning their head around to stare her down, yet Mapi really didn't fear. The karkans here from rumors are "Reewayi", hunters and masters of the plains. Yet unlike others, they weren't that aggressive.

Mapi curiously approaches them, carefully weaving through the grass. Sneaking up to get a better look. Her head poked through from the grass, alerting the karkan causing them to bolt away quickly. Leaving a flurry of gray feathers in the spot it stood.

Well she wondered why they don't make contact at all. Coming to the conclusion that it was just bird stuff, so she continued playing around the plains. Spinning her yellow feather dress around, feeling the breeze on her skin. A radiant smile appeared on her face, enjoying being alive and witnessing beauty. However in the corner of her eyes she spots something odd, humans like her on the beach.
