Virgil's POV:

Roman and I set up the final trap for my plan and we high-fived each other in triumph.
"Now that everything's set, time for stage two" I said as we walked back to the cave to gather our weapons and the others.
"You sure this will work?" Roman asked nervously and I sighed uneasily.
"It should work, and we have the backup traps set up just in case." I tried to reassure him as I slung my quiver over my chest and then my bow over my shoulder. We met back up and went over our roles again. "Ok so I trigger one of their traps with my arrows and draw their attention, when they're out in the open Patton and Logan will trigger the other two by throwing rocks at the land mines. They'll head in the direction where I shot the arrow from and will probably split up to cover more ground, me and Reina will have them follow us into our traps nearby while Roman, Patton, and Logan do the same. Everyone clear?" I explained and they all nodded, I let out a shaky breath as I brought them all into a tight group hug. "Good luck you guys, please be careful" I muttered out. We eventually separated and split up to head to our areas to initiate the ambush. I crouched in a bush with a perfect view of the first trap and inhaled deeply. Reina was some distance away waiting for when she'd have to be chased to trap the tribute following her. I drew my arrow letting my breath in even out as I aimed for a ransack of apples. I exhaled and the arrow soared through the air and perfectly cut through the ropes making the apples all tumble out. The second one of them bounced on the floor the land mines went off. I heard shouts coming from the cornucopia and then The next two traps were set off. So far so good! Now for the fun part I thought as I darted up and started to run towards the closest trap. I heard running footsteps and shouting from behind me confirming I was being followed and picked up my pace to get there faster. I stepped over the trip wire and continued to run to make it look like nothing was there. The snap of the wire rang out as it was triggered and the girl following me shrieked as she was hoisted into the air by her ankle. I stopped running and turned around laughing in victory that it actually worked. But I didn't waste another second after as I drew another arrow and ended her life with a quick shot to her head. The cannon rang and then soon after another one went off and it was another tribute who was killed by Roman. I then went into the direction of where Reina was stationed and suddenly I heard it... Reina cried out as she struggled in the trap accidentally triggering it herself. "Reina!" I cried and ran up to her immediately pulling out my hunting knife and cutting away the ropes. I helped her up and she hugged me as she thanked me up and down and repeatedly apologized. We parted and then out of nowhere another tribute jumped out from behind us with a trident in his hands. At the same time, I quickly drew my bow and shot my arrow as he threw the trident that narrowly missed me. His cannon went off before he even hit the floor. I turned around to make sure Reina was ok and gasped in horror at what I saw. Reina's abdomen was pierced with the trident as red quickly stained her clothes and hands. I caught her as she fell and she started to cough up blood as her eyes looked around in a panic. I heard the familiar footsteps running up behind me and Roman, Logan, and Patton arrived. Patton being the first to see what had happened and gasping out in shock. Logan and Roman following soon after, and they all rushed around her as I lifted up her head in my hands and started to sob in disbelief. I looked towards them in desperation and cried out. "Logan! Put pressure on the wound! We can still help her!" I sobbed out but Logan shook his head no as he looked at me sadly. Roman looked down as he placed a hand on my own, while Patton softly cried and ran his fingers through Reina's hair. "No please! There's got to be something we can do!" I blurted out but stopped as I felt her hand touch my cheek. I looked down at her as she smiled sadly up at me and shook her head no as well. "No..." I whimpered out as I cried harder.
"If..." she coughed and winced before she continued "I-If one of you guys win... please..." she paused as she slipped the Uno deck out of her pocket and held it out for me. "Take this home to my aunt... t-tell her- I-I'm sorry... for me?" she finished and her eyes fluttered weakly as she wheezed painfully. "Thank you guys for being my friends... a-and giving me the best last days of my life." She wheezed again her voice growing weaker and more hoarse. She then looked up to me and smiled with some tears building up in her eyes. "V-Virgil thank you for being my first ever true friend. T-Thank you so much..." her voice faded off and she sighed one last exhale as she closed her eyes and passed with a peaceful look on her face. Her cannon went off and I erupted into tears as I roared in agony while weeping over her body. Roman pulled me into a hug and I cried out into his chest furiously. I don't know how long I spent hiding my face into Roman's chest but after some time Logan and Patton had seemed to join the embrace. My cries eventually tired out and my tears finally stopped falling. I willed enough courage into myself to look up from Ro's chest over to Reina's lifeless body and stayed silent as I brushed a strand of her hair out of her face.
"I want to make a resting place for her" I croaked out, my voice squeaky and broken from sobbing my lungs out for so long. The three of them nodded in understanding and I reached over to grip the trident still sticking out of her abdomen. I pulled it out of her, my hands quivering violently as I did so, and I stared furiously down at the weapon and tossed it to the side. "Help me gather those flowers" I droned out with a monotone voice as I started to gather daisies surrounding the area. Patton and Roman helped me pick the flowers as Logan made sure no one was sneaking up on us. We brought the flowers back and Patton began to weave a flower crown as me and Roman arranged the flowers around her body to make it look like she was resting on a bed of daisies. I adjusted her hands to overlap each other at her stomach to cover the wound and to put her in a more peaceful position. Roman added a bouquet for her to hold as well. Patton combed through her hair to make it look nice and placed the flower crown around her head. We backed away once we were done and I turned to look at the corpse of the man who killed her. Rage coursed through my veins as I turned to Logan. "Paper, I need paper" I growled out and Logan hurriedly held out the notepad with a pen and I snatched it out of his hands. I scribbled down what I needed to and stormed up to the closest tree next to her body and used the trident to pierce the paper into the tree. It read... you've messed with the wrong person. I'm coming for you...
And I will kill you...

I then backed away and looked over to Roman, Logan, and Patton. "Let's go," I said softly and they nodded, the walk back to the cave was completely silent as we all quietly mourned for the sudden loss. No one spoke even as we ate, took notice of our supplies, and still didn't speak as Roman went out to stand guard by himself as the rest of us then fell asleep.

Why did it have to be her?
