Virgil's POV:

I was behind stage on stand-by as I watched Reina leave the stage with a loud and applauding crowd. She seemed so calm and collected, meanwhile I was lucky I hadn't passed out yet.
"Ladies and Gentlemen! We have gone through each districts tributes, with that said, only one remains! Everyone give it up! For district 6's male tribute, also district 6's first ever volunteer in the mind games history! I give you, Virgil Shade!" Ceaser announced, and I took a deep breathe to try and give myself a boost of confidence. Mentally convincing myself to move I took a step forward, and then another, and I just kept walking until I was in sight on the stage. The crowd erupted in applause and cheers and I looked at the filled to the brim audience, noticing Ginny, Luna, and Elli sitting together somewhere near the front. Ceaser applauded me himself and the crowd settled as we sat in the chairs set on the stage. "I have to say, that was an interesting entrance at the tribute parade yesterday, now Reina gave her thoughts about it but let's hear yours" Ceaser started off and I started to act, putting on a smile and chuckling to myself.
"Well, lets say when fire was mentioned I wasn't too keen on the idea" I told him and the audience laughed with him at the small joke.
"You and me both, I would've booked it out of the room but then!" Ceaser added and I faked a laugh to go with it. "Whoever thought of that idea is absolutely outstanding! There's no way in a hundred years I could've ever thought up that!" Ceaser continued and I nodded in agreement.
"Same here, and the outfit design was done all by Elli Summers, she has many great ideas" I told him and the crowd wanting to promote Elli a little as well for all her hard work and kindness. The crowd roared for Elli and I noticed her blushing from receiving all the attention.
"On the topic of those flames, Reina gave a small demonstration herself just moments ago, so I have to ask if you have anything on your outfit too?" He asked and I nodded my head with a smile.
"I do actually," I answered back and looked to the crowd "do you guys want to see it?" I asked and the crowed cried out in desperate cheers to see the flames. "Alright then." I stood up from the chair making sure I had enough distance between Ceaser and the crowd. I held the cloak like Elli showed me and whipped around for my back to face the crowd while bringing the cloak with me. The crowd gasped and cheered at seeing the purple flames dance along my back. I held it again and started to spin slowly letting the flames run for longer. I stopped after a couple turns and sat back down looking to Ceaser.
"Well wasn't that a show! Give it up for the lilac flame folks!" He exclaimed while giving me a nickname and we waited for the crowd to quite down. Suddenly his face dropped to one of pity and I knew immediately he was going to ask about Janus. "Now Virgil-" he began and took my hands in his to rest in my lap. "Your brother, Janus... we were all so moved... when you volunteered to take his place at the qualifications." He continued "did he come to say goodbye?" He asked and a scenario crossed my head where I snapped at him for even having the audacity to think he wouldn't say goodbye. But Luna's words filled my head 'give them what they want'.
"Yes... he came to say goodbye..." I answered slowly and softly.
"And what did you tell him... in the end" he asked and I took in a sharp inhale, hoping it wasn't to noticeable.
"I-I... told him, that he had to stay strong for me, that if I went... I didn't want him to hang on to me forever and to shut down... that he had to keep going for me..." I responded remembering the last time I saw his face which was not even a full two days ago. "And that I would do everything I could to win to get back to him" I finished and took a deep breathe. He looked to the audience and sighed deeply.
"So touching, isn't it?" He asked and the crowd responded with applause except there was no cheering this time. "Well Virgil, we have a little surprise for you" he added and I looked at him confused. A camera set crew guy came to my side holding a phone, except this one had a screen and it was dialed to Janus's name. I covered my mouth in surprise, and looked at Ceaser to notice the screen was projected onto a screen behind our heads. Janus finally responded and I got to see his face.
"Janus!" I said breathlessly and fought back tears that started to prick at my eyes.
"Virge!" He cried back and covered his mouth tearing up a lot more than I was, he eventually removed the hands from his face and I saw him smiling widely.
"Hey! You're actually o-on live TV right now" I told him and he went wide eyed before smiling and waving at the camera.
"Hi!" He exclaimed and the crowd cooed at him.
"How are you doing so far bud?" I asked and he couldn't stop smiling.
"I'm doing... ok I guess... I'm doing what you ask me and being good for Remy" he reassured me and I smiled softly to him. "He's actually here too, c'mon Remy say hi!" Janus added and went off-screen slightly to pull in my best friend. He waved shyly and chuckled quietly at being put in the spotlight.
"Hey Virgil, I never got to say goodbye like Janus so it's really good to see you" he told me and I smiled to him.
"It's good to see you too Remy, now I already made Janus's part clear to be good to you, but you gotta promise me to be good to him too while I'm gone ok?" I asked and he nodded, he laughed a little while straightening up and saluting like soldier
"Sir, yes sir!" He cried and chuckled to himself while I laughed to myself softly.
"You have no idea how much I miss you guys already" I continued and sighed "I have to get going though, I love you guys" I told them and they nodded their smiles now fading at having to see me go.
"Love you too! Bye!" They exclaimed together and they waved excitedly as I waved back. The call ended and the phone was taken from me. I smiled to Ceaser and sighed deeply.
"Now I know the story of your brother but who was that handsome fellow with him?" He asked and wiggled his eyebrows at me suggestively "A special someone back home?" He asked and I burst out laughing and shook my head wildly.
"Remy?! Oh stars no, well we are both gay at that but no. He's my best friend and like a twin brother to me. When I need him, he is always there for me and always keeps Janus in mind as well too. He got me and Janus out of a few pretty rough situations some time ago" I admitted.
"Well IS there a special someone back home?" he asked and I shook my head again.
"Nah, I'm too focused on taking care of me and Janus to even think about special someone's. Doesn't mean I won't find people attractive from time to time. But yeah there isn't anyone" I continued and blushed slightly while thinking about Logan, Patton, and Roman.
"Well that about wraps it up, everyone give it up for the lilac flame!" He exclaimed, and I guess that was my title now. The crowd was the loudest I had heard it all night as I waved and stood up to make my exit, giving my cape one last swish to activate the flames for the crowd as I left. The fake smile I had on dropped once I was out of sight yet I put on a mask once again when I saw Reina who trotted up to me and hugged me.
"You did amazing!" She cried and I chuckled as I pat her back. But frowned upon remembering my call with Janus and Remy all to create drama for the audience.
"Yeah... amazing"
