It took a lot of courage for Sanguk to knock on Mariposa's front door, even though he just dropped her off at her morning class. He had a reason, and it was reasonable considering that he wanted to become a better English speaker and to also prove to Mariposa's parents that he was serious and he wasn't going anywhere. He slipped his hands in his pocket; he swallowed hard, and he heard the door unlocking. The door opens and his eyes meet with Mariposa's mother. He felt a sense of relief, his lips formed into a smile. Her appearance was warm, just like Mariposa's. Her hair was tied back in a soft low bun, she wore a long dress with a shawl."Sanguk?" Lana smiles, her head tilted a little.
Sanguk's mouth opens and he rubs the back of his neck. "Uh... oh-I wanted to come to see you and talk to you," Sanguk says and Lana listened carefully, picking up on each word and she nodded with a wide smile. "Please, come in," she says, stepping aside and Sanguk nodded. He walks in and he was about to slip his shoes off but Lana rested her hand against his shoulder. "It's okay, you can wear your shoes," Lana says and Sanguk hummed, he was so used to doing it at home that he forgot that other people don't do it at their homes.
Sanguk followed Lana to the living room and Sanguk's mouth fell open as he looked around, it was quite huge and it was probably the biggest living room he had ever seen. Expensive rugs, couches with detailed decor, paintings, sculptures, and a fireplace. It was expensive to the eye but still homey. Lana sits down and Sanguk sits down with her. "So what brings you here?" Lana asked and Sanguk cleared his throat. He honestly didn't know where to start.
Sanguk's eyes lowered to the floor and he looked back at Lana. "I came because I wanted to ask if you could help me study to get my citizenship. You told me the other day... that you teach English and I want to join your class. I still need to study to earn my citizenship so I can get a good job and to take care of myself and Mariposa," Sanguk says truthfully and Lana's smile doesn't falter not for a second, she reaches out and grabs his hand. "Yes, of course. I'm so glad you came to me.. I know it's hard to do this and I think it's brave of you because it could've been her father who opened the door. He's hardly home these days..." Lana trailed off and she gave him a side smile. "Whenever you drop Mariposa off, you can come back and I'll give you private lessons. Every morning on weekdays," Lana stated and Sanguk's eyes widened. "R-Really?" He gasped and Lana nodded. "You are the first person to ever show such dedication to Mariposa. She talks to me a lot about you to me and she has met some people before but they never made her smile as much as you do. It's been so long since I've seen her smile so much," Lana smiles sadly and Sanguk stares at Lana, he felt so safe with Lana. It made him miss his mother so much.
Lana's smile faltered and she rests her hands in her lap. "I know these days... Mariposa's father isn't accepting of certain things and people when it comes to Mariposa. He wants what's best for her but all I have to say is that no matter what, don't leave her," Lana tells Sanguk and he nods, he would never leave her.
