Summer, 1974.A little time passed and things were gradually getting better for Mariposa and Sanguk. Finals were coming to an end and graduation was near. She has been so busy studying, finishing her last year and most of all trying her best to make time for Sanguk.
Sanguk knew it was hard for her to keep up with him at this time of the year so he told her that she should focus on studies and to call him whenever she didn't feel like she was rushing just to see him. It was only just a couple of weeks but it didn't mean they called each other all the time. Calls were minimal talking and more just enjoying each other's silence, a few English sentences and mostly Mariposa laughing at him on the other side of the line because Sanguk keeps yelling at Joey who wanted to hear their conversations because he adores them so much.
Sanguk did meet with Lana during the weekdays to study English and he's gotten better, learned more structure sentences and a lot of vocabulary.
Sanguk sat down in the public library while Lana sat near, a book in her hand waiting for Sanguk to finish writing out his sentences. Sanguk's inner palm ached, it was so odd writing an English letter for this long period of time. He thought maybe because he hasn't written much since he moved to America that it made his hand ache but he noticed that his handwriting was terrible in english, it made him grip the pencil harder, trying to shape out his letter as perfectly as he could. He felt himself starting to perspire, he didn't understand why it was so hard for him.
Lana noticed the strain and how hard he gripped the pencil, she wanted him to relax but she knew the pressure of learning but also how he was trying to work to prove himself for others but this wasn't just about Mariposa or her dad, it was for himself mostly.
"Relax," Lana says softly.
Sanguk's eyes shot to Lana and he let go of the pencil, he raised his hands slightly and he began to massage his wrist and flex his fingers, attempting to relieve the ache and pressure.
Lana watched him rub the inner palm of his left hand. She noticed that he wrote with both of his hands, if one got tired then he would switch and they both looked the same in writing. Maybe he was ambidextrous but she noticed that he wrote a little better with the right.
"Try writing with just your right hand," Lana says.
Sanguk switched the pencil in his other hand and he began to write again. There was less strain but his left hand was more sore. "You write with both hands which is okay but you write better with this hand. You can still work on the left if you like but I don't want you to be stressed or strain both of your hands," Lana says and Sanguk nods his head slightly, he looks at Lana and he smiles. "H-How is Mariposa?" Sanguk questioned and Lana smiled as she sat her book down.
"Preparing for her graduation. Did you get your invitation to come?" Lana says.
Sanguk nodded, his invitation was covered in hearts and Mariposa handwritten hers to him and she just went on about how much she wanted him to be there. He wouldn't miss it for nothing and he was going to get her a big bouquet of flowers and he was going to treat her to a nice dinner. He worked so hard and fought his way through dealing with his aunt because of how much of a hassler she was to him but he managed to get as much as he could while Mariposa was busy with her school.
"There will be lunch after, I want you to come but it will be the first time that you will be meeting Mariposa's father," Lana stated.
Sanguk's heart sank, he honestly didn't feel ready to meet Mariposa's father since he has this hatred towards him even though they have never met. He didn't want to look like someone who wasn't worthy of Mariposa.
