The gates are open. Why are the gates just open? I speed along the Mage's tracks until I find his (god awful) Jeep, perked in the main courtyard. I have a good mind to blow the windows in, just out of spite, but I refrain. There's more important things to do.
I storm up to the Weeping Tower, and to the elevator. I can still remember the "Top floor, please," my mother used to spell for us.
My mother.
My wonderful mother, killed by monsters. Monsters sent by a king of monsters.
The doors slide open to my mother's office– in shambles. Papers scribbled with notes and spells, stuck disastrously to every wall, stacks of books that have grown exponentially since my last visit– it's all wrong.
From the window, I can see the White Chapel, glowing whiter than it should be. Snow's going off.
