Yami had no idea how he had managed to survive that morning after their little adventure, but it only took him a day or two to feel completely normal again. By the time he had to work again, he was perfectly fine and so was Y/N. They never heard anything about the stolen barrel either in the weeks that followed, so that was good. Summer was slowly coming to an end, but they still had the last few hot weeks of the year ahead of them. Yami hoped they could make the best of it.

He really wanted to tell Y/N that he liked her. Really liked her. As more than a friend. He just didn't really know how to do that. He was thinking that they could maybe go on a walk late at night and look at the stars or they could get food somewhere or... maybe the dinner would be too official. Yami had no idea how to even start asking a girl out. He didn't have the faintest clue.

But he had to figure something out at some point or he'd go insane. Anytime he was talking to her, it was like the words threatened to spill out of his mouth and it was so difficult to keep it to himself. And what was the point in keeping it to himself? What was the worst that could happen? If she didn't feel the same, then they'd probably still be friends. At least Yami hoped so. If not, well... that was a bridge he planned to cross when he got to it. Not sooner or later than that.

Besides, there were still a lot of weeks of summer left and if the year was anything like last year, it wouldn't get cold until well into autumn, which meant they could hang out outside a lot more. People didn't ask as many questions when they were outside, spending time with each other. They did ask more questions (and more uncomfortable questions) whenever they were at either her place or Yami's place and it was a little annoying. Yami preferred to avoid that if possible.

Either way, he didn't have to think about that for now. He wasn't going to make a move on Y/N while they were at work. If she rejected him then, things would be really awkward and Yami didn't want that either. He decided to just focus on doing his job for now, which was difficult enough with Y/N around him constantly. It was almost like she was getting more and more distracting by the day. Of course that wasn't her fault, it wasn't like she was doing it on purpose. She wasn't doing anything at all, in fact. Yami was just hopelessly and deeply in love with her.

Maybe he would have to make a move while they were at work. If things were getting really desperate, he might think about that again, but as for now he still had time. Or did he have time? He had noticed her talking to some of the other fishermen and of course she was free to do that, but it was irking him. It was messing with his head, seeing her laughing with some of them while he was working and he wondered whether she'd go for one of them, if he didn't hurry up.

But then again he knew that Y/N didn't have any intentions of settling anytime soon, so he would be surprised if she actually did go for it if someone asked her out. He was very aware that that included him and he was very nervous about her actually rejecting him, because she felt like she was way too young for getting married and all of that. Yami was fully prepared to let her know that he wasn't at all thinking of any of that stuff just yet. They could be just the way they were until the end of time, but he just... he wanted to hold her, he wanted to kiss her, spend all his time with her... it wasn driving him mad that he couldn't do all that now.

He was torn from his thoughts of cuddling up to Y/N and kissing the top of her head softly, smelling the sea air in her hair and the tenderness of her skin, feeling her lips that were slightly chapped from the salt water that was constantly around them and her rough hands in his own. He snapped back to reality when he felt something nudging him in the side repeatedly.

"Were you even listening to anything I've said, Yami?" Y/N asked him. He blinked a few times in surprise. Had she been talking all this time? No way. He was such an idiot. How did he not even listen? He thought of lying to her for a second, pretending that he had heard every single word, but he knew that would end badly for him. Y/N wasn't above asking him what she had just said, just to catch him out. She normally preferred it when he was honest with her.
