"You can't do that. An ace is smaller than a 2. So I won the cards." I said, trying to pry the cards out of Adam's hands.

"Are you high? The ace is always the highest card." Adam said, tightening his grip.

It was finally Friday. Adam and I were following our usual morning routine. I'd get there at 6, and we'd hang out till he had work. Today, however, I was not in the mood to do anything physical as I had a crazy day at work yesterday, so we ended up playing cards in bed. The rules were that we both put down a card. Whoever had the higher card wins the round and asks the other player a question.

"No, I am not high. Take your cards, and I already answered your question for this round." I let go of the cards causing him to fall back on the pillow. I smirked, satisfied I had one-upped him.

"Cheaters never prosper," He took the cards and tucked them in the pile he was holding.

We put another card down on the bedsheets. I had a 10, him, a 7.

"I guess they do!" I swiftly scooped up both the cards. "Now, what should I ask you?" I said, tapping my right index finger on my chin.

"How do I get my hair to look this good? Why do I look so good without a shirt? How do I do that one move I noticed you like?" He counted each of the questions on his fingers. "All good options."

"Thanks for your input, but how about, why did you say I was the last person you wanted to see the first day we met?" I asked, rubbing the two cards in my hands in anticipation of his answer.

"You always annoyed me in high school. So when I saw you in my already annoyed state, I was not happy." He said, observing me like he was excited to see how I would react to this. I kept my poker face on. Making sure I gave nothing away. Inside, however, I was slightly hurt, though curious. How had I managed to annoy Adam when I hardly ever talked to him?

I gave up my facade and ended up asking him, "Why did I annoy you so much?"

"No-uhh," he sang. "Only one question per win, cheater."

We drew our cards once more. Again I had the higher number, but before I could claim the prize in the form of an answer, my phone buzzed beside me, and Avi's name flashed up. I placed my finger on my lips to indicate to Adam to quiet down.

"Hey, Avi, What's up?" I answered as Adam took a card from my deck and began playing without my input. I won again.

"Hey, what time are you thinking of going tomorrow? I am going alone because my mother is working." She asked.

"Where?" I question as Adam lost another round with my deck still drawing a high card.

"Lily's baby shower?" she stated.

Avi's response flooded back a memory of my mother vaguely mentioning something about someone from the temple having a baby. I am sure she had mentioned something about a party too, but I could not say for sure.

"Yeah, I think my mother told me about it. What time is it starting?" Adam had finally won around and was raising his fists in triumph. It took everything in my power not to giggle at this. He then snapped his fingers like he just had a great idea and ran out of the bedroom.

"I think 5. They will do some kind of prayer for the new baby and then play games and dance. The usual." She apathetically said. "But the dress code is Indian.

I heard Adam opening and closing drawers in the kitchen. What the heck was this guy doing?

"Oh man, I have nothing to wear. All the clothes I had for your wedding are too big now." I groaned. "I lost so much weight that nothing fits now."
