Roseanne had never felt more uncomfortable in her life. She just wasn't trained to walk in heels and long dresses through snow covered paths of their town. Her pink dress now had brown edges from the melted snow, but the young man next to her didn't seem to care. He simply kept speaking highly of his job, describing all sorts of weaponry he was allowed to use and all the beasts he had to fight off. Her toes were slowly starting to freeze, making each step more painful than the previous one. They passed by three taverns, two inns and a fancy restaurant, yet Noah didn't seem satisfied with any of them.
"Can we just have a drink instead of a meal?" Roseanne interrupted him.
"I suppose we can," Noah replied, his face showing dissatisfaction because of the careless interruption.
They entered the next nearest tavern, Noah stepping in first. Roseanne almost scoffed at his action, but stopped once he held the door open for her to enter. She then followed the man to an empty table, taking a seat across from him. The young ones weren't sure why they had to spend time alone. Noah didn't seek relationship, not even friendship, and Rose wasn't allowed to think about anything romantic. At least until now.
Two drinks were coming their way. It seemed that they already knew Noah's order from before. The liquid was green, a colour she wasn't very fond of. Noah took his glass and gently clinked it with hers, then took a sip of it.
"To whatever the fuck is going on right now."
"So you don't know either?" Rose asked, bringing the glass close to her nose and giving it a sniff. It smelled like berries.
"The only thing I know is that your parents are terrifying."
Rose was taken aback by his sudden honesty. She was so used to everything they did, she didn't know that outsiders might be surprised with their behaviour. Hanging in the air was something usual for her, but not for the Han family. Or many families.
"I mean, my father is horrible, really. But damn, Vernon is a different level. Almost shat myself back there."
Rose raised her eyebrow. The young man turned into a teenager right in front of her eyes in just a few seconds. "What's with the double personality?"
"Don't tell me you act like a perfect little princess when they're not around." Noah scoffed. Her silence made him look up from the drink and at her, his eyebrow mimicking hers. "Do you?"
"I'm not saying I'm perfect, but I still know how to behave."
As if you didn't beg a professor to take your virginity on his bed a few days ago.
"Well then, I'll have to match your energy to satisfy our parents. My lady, do you wish to consume delicious beef this lovely night? Perhaps a smoked salmon?"
"You're weird."
"And you're boring."
The girl was the one to scoff this time. You're a killer, she wanted to snap.
"Well then, Miss Roseanne, tell me about yourself."
Rose couldn't remember the last time someone asked her that question. There wasn't much to say. Actually, there wasn't much she was allowed to say. She was so used to her life that she couldn't possibly know what would sound interesting to a stranger who wants to meet her.
"Ask me, Mr Han." She replied. She finally took a sip of the liquid. Then another one, and another one, until the glass was empty. She wasn't sure what came over her, but the sweet liquid was the best thing she had tried in her life. "I think I'll need one more."
