She took out a navy blue dress for me to try on, she left the room to give me privacy. I stared at myself in the mirror, god I look like an idiot, this is stupid, as I was kicking myself a knock came "come in" I said sheepishly her eyes wide "wow, you look amazing" I gave a sad smile and she put a had on my shoulder "what's wrong"
"The last time I wore a dress I was made fun of" her mouth opened in shock "I grew up with just my dad on a military base so I never really had a woman to look out to, hell when I first bleed my father sent me off to the infamy wanting nothing to do with it" ok, so I'm telling somewhat of the truth, I grew up in the tower and he sent me to nat but that's beside the point I need to sell this
She gave me a sad look then quickly changed it "I'll do your makeup, I assume you've never worn it before, it might feel odd at first but you'll get used to it" she pulled out a pair of matching shoes "now tell me about this fine man who asked you the expo" I laughed "I asked him" she was even more shocked "oh shit, Peggy I asked a guy on a date" my hands started to shake realizing what I just did, sure I have a crush on bucky in my time but actually asking him on a date, I could never and yet I did so easily "look at me" I did as told "you are a strong, brave beautiful woman, you can ask any guy on a date. Hell even I would have a hard time saying no to a date from you" she placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder
Does Peggy have a thing for women in power? That's hot. I changed back into my other clothes gently setting the dress back on the hook, " thank you Peggy" I met her out in the kitchen where she place a sandwich in front of me "it the least I could do after what you're doing for us"
"How do things work around here? Where I'm from the woman pays for part of the date and stuff like that" she smiles taking a sip of her drink "well here the men pay for everything, don't be surprised if your date won't let you pay for drinks or food. usually, they will buy you something if they see that it caught your eye, they'll hold doors open for you, let you go first to be respectful" she explained "a gentleman" I said "a gentleman" she agreed "although where your from it sounds like men and women are equal" I nodded "almost were still trying" we finished up our food and started to get ready for the expo
"I need one more thing" she looked up from fixing her makeup "anything" she waited for me to continue "a friend of mine want to join the army but he's been denied" she gave me a look "I know what you and Howard are doing and I think he's perfect for it" she stood at my words "how do you know" she placed her hand on the vanity, one of the firearms are there "the notebook" she took a breath and nodded "we'll do it before we go the expo" I nodded and thanked her.
Peggy walked me to the entrance then went her own way. she went all out, curled my hair, red lipstick, she even painted my nails and gave me a much-needed pep talk. I saw pre-serum steve and bucky at the entrance waiting for me "hope you didn't wait long" I said making them turn around, bucky's mouth fell open even steve was blushing "wow, you look ...wow" I just made the ladies man flustered "I know"
He healed out his arm and we went in. we walked around for a bit, "buck, can you get me a drink please" he kissed the back of my hand " of course doll" once he was out of sight I turned to steve "here" I handed him the paper he opened it to look at it "how did you" I smile and kissed his cheek "I have my ways Mr rogers" his smile was big and more blush spread onto his cheeks
He quickly shoved it into his pocket when he saw bucky returning with three drinks "here doll" he handed me mine "thanks'' we walked around some more looking at all the things stark had out, I had seen it on film but actually being here was amazing, in one of the stalls was a small dainty necklace, it was beautiful. I don't wear jewelry often but this was right up my alley. I was about to get the seller's attention when I remembered I didn't have any money.
I'm sure I can draw it up and have it made when I get back home. I turned to see what Steve was looking at, leaving Bucky behind. We heard stark on my mic, "it's starting, let's go" I dragged the both of them with me to get up close. Stark saw me in the crowd and his eyes went wide, he winked. It took everything in me to throw up when my grandfather flirted with me. Gross
Bucky wrapped his arms around me and healed out a small box "here doll" he whispered, I opened it to see the necklace I was eyeing earlier "buck, you didn't have to" he took it out of and put it on my neck "I did, it's perfect" I remembered what Peggy told me "usually they will buy you something if they see that it caught your eye" I guess he was paying attention "when do you go" I grabbed his arms keeping him behind me, his head resting on my shoulder "in a few hours''
Bucky walked me to Peggy's place, I could see her looking out of her window at us, " I'm sorry doll, but you know" I nodded still holding his hand "I know" I said sadly that my first and only date with buck was now over "I'll come back to you, I promise" my eyes glazed over knowing his fate " hey, it'll be an ok doll" he wiped my tears away. I gave him a kiss on the cheek and went in.
