The landscape before me looked straight out of a dream, and I vaguely thought that it was possibly a dream. Rolling green hills filled the world around me, and butterflies the size of horses flew about, bobbing up and down without a care in the world. I looked down at myself, but surprisingly I had no body, I shrugged it off and continued to look around.
I turned to my right and failed to startle when a kangaroo in a tuxedo offered me his arm, I took it and we walked to the nearest tree, as if we were going to rest underneath the shade.
"Josie, wake up we're here." The kangaroo says when we reach the tree.
I pull my hand from it's arm and sit down. "I am awake Mr. Tuxedo Kangaroo. Maybe you need to wake up." I say.
As the words escape my lips, I feel my surroundings start to shake, an earthquake? Wait no.

"Josie, Jo? We're here honey, you need to help Danny with his bike." My mother's songbird voice sounds from the front seat and I sit up quickly, wiping the drool off my face in the process.
She laughs at me, the wrinkles around her eyes squishing up and her head throwing back. "Come on princess lazy-pants, your brother is going to drop that thing on his head." I look out the window and see Daniel trying to lift his bike from the roof of the car. "Guess this is the job for the smart twin."
Mom laughs at me again, then pushes me out of the car. "Just you hurry."
We both get out of the crummy Station Wagon that's been around since before I was born and take in the surroundings. It's a dump.
The building itself is made from a chunky white concrete that deeply accentuates the vomit coloured grass around it. The sign above reads 'South Seas' in ugly purple letters. It's definitely a step down from our house in New Jersey.
"All right kids all hands on deck!" Mom yells happily. We each grab our bags, and I pull my bike off the top easily while Danny struggles with his. "How did you do that?" He asks me amazed.
I roll my eyes, "You have to undo the ropes, genius. You're just trying to pull it off the car." I laugh at him as he easily undoes the rope and beams at me.
"Did I tell you about the pool here?" Mom says enthusiastically looking at the building.
Danny and I look at each other, "Ya ma." We laugh at us being in sync, it happens all the time. "Only a hundred times." Danny adds. I giggle, but mom just rolls her eyes.
"Open your eyes my darling children, this is the Garden of Eden! The end of the line!" Danny looks at me with his eyebrows raised and a serious look. "Ya, you're telling me." He jokes. Mom glares at us and I snicker.
"Come on guys. Listen, we're in apartment twenty okay?" She starts up the stairs and through the gate, it closes behind her and I hear her say. "One flight up."
"Well at least she's happy." Danny says, grabbing his backpack and slinging it over his shoulder. I do the same, and start rolling my bike up the sidewalk.
"She deserves it Danny. After what happened with dad we all needed to get away."
He rolls his eyes. "Easy for you to say, you didn't have any friends in Jersey."
I glare at him, but he just shrugs. "it's true."
"Just because it's true doesn't mean you have to remind me about it all the time." I snap.
He frowns. "Jeez, sorry I didn't know it made you that upset."
I return my attention to rolling my bike away from the car. "It's fine." I mumble and he moves up next to me.
