Part Five: Knock Out

I skid around the corner of the building and slam into a wall of bones and skin. "Oh my god, Josie, I'm so sorry are you okay?" Danny puts his hands on my shoulder, and I turn to see Ali standing beside him.

"Wow Daniel, I go to save your ass and you run off with your girlfriend?!" I yell at him, and shove him away.

Danny hangs his head in shame, "It was the first thing I thought of, I thought maybe if I brought Ali she could help you and distract him or something."

I stare at him with utter confusion on my face, I'm surrounded by idiots. I rub my temples and sigh, "It's okay Danny you did your best, I suppose." He smiles sadly at me, and Ali pats him on the back.

We all walk through the school, and avoid the parking lot where Johnny and his gang park their bikes.

After a silent ride home on our bikes, Danny and I retreat to our room to do the pile of homework that we had already accumulated on the first day.

I was so excited for my first Karate class with Cobra Kai, I was going to show all of these little rats how girls fight. The night went by quickly, thankfully, and I managed to get all of my homework done right before mom entered to take me into town.

"Okay, do you have your water?" Mom asks when we get into the car, I nod. "What about a change of clothes, your Karate uniform thing?" I roll my eyes, "It's called a Gi mom, and yes I have everything."

She smiles and starts the car, her first compensation paycheck was enough for us to comfortably afford a second hand Ford. It was nice, silver with leather seats, not too classy and not too ratty.

At least now we wouldn't have to worry about breaking down on the side of a dark road, and murdered by a group of bandits.

During the car ride, mom's trying to figure out the new stereo system and I'm trying to read from the manual to help her out, "No mom, if you press the button in the middle it mutes it, just turn it up. No! Don't crank it, you're going to kill my ears!"

Finally, when we roll up to the Cobra Kai Dojo, we have on classic rock and it's playing just loud enough so that we can hear it without causing brain damage.

I go to get out of the car, and realize with a start that there are five motorcycles in front of us, their riders nowhere to be seen. I shrug it off, it's probably a coincidence.

But didn't Ali tell me that they were 'Karate Buddies'? I start to panic and look at my mom, bless her, she's smiling at me and waving. She doesn't seem to notice that I feel like I'm going to throw up.

I stand up straight and take a deep breath, I've faced worse, and if this is the worse then I'll get over it. Like I always do.

I walk up to the door, and push it open. The smell of rubber and sweat hits my nose, in a way it's comforting. I remove my shoes and socks, and put them to the side. I enter the Dojo and Sensei John walks over to me.

"Welcome to your first class, Josie." He says, smacking me on the back. It's a fatherly gesture in a sort of way, and my mind goes to my dad. Living it up in Seattle. "The boys are warming up and getting their Gi's on, you can do the same."

I nod and walk further into the Dojo, "Oh shit." I mumble. Standing on the other side of the room is a very shirtless Johnny Lawrence, my mind immediately thinks 'Abs' but I cringe and push it out of my brain.

He sees me, and we make eye contact. His friends, whom he's standing with notice me as well. "You." Johnny says coldly.

"You." I say with an equal tone.

"Ah, I see you two already know each other?" I don't notice Sensei come up behind me.

I think on my feet, and return to cool composure and allow a smile to settle on my face. "Oh yes Sensei, they're in my Spanish class."
