The Eggs' POV
"Why can't you just fly us over, Kyle?" Dae groaned from where she lay, sprawled out across two kitchen chairs. "It would be way cheaper and probably way faster."
Dae was not so fond of the idea of a three AM start and it was her duty to make sure that everyone knew about it. Why wake up so early if you can't even complain about it?
"I'm not flying to Florida and back again three times just so I can carry all of you. I don't like you that much. Besides, I failed geography this year, so I'd probably end up taking you to Finland or something by accident." Kyle said, double checking everything in his backpack. Phone, check. Passport, check. Headphones, check. Boarding pass, check. The strength he would need to deal with Dae at 3 AM, lacking. Severely lacking. No amount of coffee and Red Bull could help him deal with that. He tried to convince Axel to book a later flight but he insisted that arriving earlier was a better idea, more time there and all that jazz. Axel had this trip perfected, he had a notebook full of all the details and options for flights, food, accommodation, activities. Obsessive might be an understatement.
"Hallie isn't coming with us so that's one less person," Dae reasoned but that led to nowhere, so she switched her tactic. "Brooklyn, you tell him, he always listens to you!"
Brooklyn was too busy counting the remaining slices of toast to make sure that everyone had had at least one, tired Dae was one thing but hungry Dae was a whole new level....
When she accepted that she wasn't going to get an answer Dae rolled her eyes. "People these days..." she muttered. "In my day..."
"I just hope everything is okay with Hallie," Kyle sighed, sinking into a chair. "I know she's with her grandmother and they have the best lawyers money can buy but come on, it's got to be stressful."
Brooklyn perched on the table, next to the almost empty plate of toast. "I know. I've been texting her a lot recently. She's okay, well as okay as you can be while trying to send your mother to jail for an illegal hate group."
An awkward silence fell across the room. They had initially bought five plane tickets until Hallie announced that she was going back up north to help her grandmother sue her mother. After the AAU got exposed, people started to doubt the government's word. Soon enough, the entire public was team Heroes and groups like Hallie's mothers, the Anti Hero Association, were facing worse scrutiny than The Heroes ever had.
Axel broke the silence. "Come on, Dae," he slid his hand into hers and pulled her off the chairs. "Let's go to the car."
"Shotgun!" Called Brooklyn as she raced out of the front door before anyone else, like a bullet fired from an actual shotgun.
"No fair!" Dae whined, a toddler in a seventeen year old body. "Axel distracted me!"
"I tend to have that effect on people." He shrugged.
"Guys, please keep it down, mum will kill me before we get to America if we wake Clara!"
One agonsing car journey later, a struggle through security (shout out to Kyle's suit, sorry, I mean Kyle's 'pajamas') and they were sitting on a stuffy plane. The flight was relatively easy - as far as nine hour flights go - there were no crying babies, no one arguing with the staff, very little turbulence and the water wasn't even that over priced! The real problems began once they landed in 'the land of the free'.
"Why is it so warm? Seriously, I feel like I'm melting." Kyle grumbled. He was using a colouring book as a fan - he claimed that he bought it for Clara, but most of the pages had already been filled on the flight
