"It's getting late," Brooklyn said, looking around nervously at the thinning crowds and darkening sky. Stars were starting to replace clouds and the blue sky was deepening.
Kyle looked up too. "I think most of the rides are closed by now."
Dae pouted. "But I don't want to leave yet! Five more minutes!" She whined, a five year old briefly possessing her.
Axel nudged Colin. "Wasn't there something about that boat ride staying open later, remember the one we tried to get on earlier but it was closed? They planned to extend opening hours cause it was under maintenance all day or something?"
The five year old in a seventeen year old body, more commonly known as Dae Kim, grinned and looped her arm through Syd's. "I bet we could fix it way better than those guys, they probably made it go slower for safety or something."
"I don't like how you put air quotes around 'safety', Dae," Brooklyn said nervously. But Dae, of course, ignored her.
"Just a few adjustments couldn't hurt," Syd smirked.
"I'm not sure we want to take that chance, Syd. Maybe we could just, I don't know, enjoy the ride?" Lacey sighed, fading fast. She was pretty exhausted from the day already. After all, keeping Daniel from murdering Kyle was both a mentally and physically draining task.
"I'm with Lacey on this one," Colin chimed in. "Sorry Syd, but you and Dae scare me."
Sydney just laughed and looked over at Dae. She wasn't really going to listen to Lacey or Colin.
"I am in complete agreement with you, my dear." Dae glanced at the rest of their group. "They are all too tired to understand what real fun is! I did engineering for GCSE. I know what I'm doing. Trust me."
"Yeah," Kyle snapped, "And I did history at GCSE but that doesn't mean I'm going to be starting or ending any fascist regimes!"
"Is that so?" Daniel glared at him. Not that he wasn't already glaring at Kyle for even just breathing. So really, Daniel glared at him harder. He peered over at Colin and gave him a subtle nod. Colin took out a notepad and quickly wrote something down. Lacey didn't have the energy to be confused by them any more.
"Hey?" Kyle nudged Axel. "What are they doing?"
Axel shrugged. "I don't know, man. I'm tired so let's just find this ride!"
"The map says it's that way," Colin pointed in a very vague direction that seemed even less familiar now that the sun was setting.
They all started to walk in the direction that Colin had pointed to, with varying degrees of confidence in him, but Dae and Syd held back, walking a few steps behind the rest of their crew.
"I say, we check out the boat before we start plotting anything too serious but for now we need to make sure that no one suspects anything because they will just try to stop us."
"Understood and agreed. This'll probably be the last ride of the night, so let's do the whole gang a favor and make it memorable."
"We have to go home tomorrow evening too, so we really need to make this good. One last bang!" Dae squeezed her arm. "But of course we'll all keep in touch, I'm not leaving my new best friend and business partner that quickly."
"You better not be!" Syd returned the gesture. "Who knows? Maybe we can come visit you guys soon."
"You should totally come visit us! I'll show you all of the wonders of the UK! Like.... Are you a Potterhead?"
"Obviously," she deadpanned in a scarily good impression of Professor Snape's voice.
"Wonderful! Well, if for some reason the guards at Kings Cross stop us before we get to run through the wall, trust me they will try to stop you if you do that, I know, we could do the Warner Bros Studio tour!"
