Five minutes of walking in silence. Ten. Fifteen. Twenty.
With every step you took you got more and more agitated, waiting for the final tick to set you off like a bomb. Technoblade's every word from your heated discussion rang throughout your head as you journeyed south towards his waterfall.
The snow was beginning to melt beneath you, beautifully nurtured grass poking out from under it. The environment he was leading you into seemed much more suited to have a waterfall than the arctic tundra he resided in.
"Are we lost?" you huffed, kicking the white powder onto a patch of glowing turf.
"No."
"We've been walking for nearly half an hour, you said it took five minutes."
"We have been walking for just under four minutes. You have a terrible sense of time," he retaliated, not stopping in the direction he was striding.
"It has been more than four minutes! There's no way..." you trailed off, beginning to doubt yourself. "How do you even know; have you been counting the seconds?"
"No, but I'm aware."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
"Who cares, we're here."
His shadow was looming on the greenery surrounding you as he stepped aside to reveal a gorgeous waterfall cascading off the top of a snow-peaked mountain. The water flowed down into a lake that formed into a river that weaved away from the cavern, and into the surrounding jungle. Flowers were blooming all around you, vibrant and untouched. The whole habitat was thriving as if no human had ever set foot there before.
The sounds of the environment enveloped your ears; the birds chirping a sweet melody, the water crashing into the pond, the breeze swaying the leaves in the trees. You couldn't help but smile at how amazing nature could be, awe washing away all your previous problems.
That was until you felt a hand lightly nudge your shoulder, pushing you towards the waterfall.
"There's a cave behind the waterfall, small and private," Techno said, leading you down a worn-out path. You couldn't tell if he was implying something deeper, but you brushed it off as nothing.
The harsh rushing of the waterfall flooded your eardrums, unable to pick up on anything else. He was right, there was no chance anyone could hear you if you tried.
You stuck your hand under the running water, the cold wrapping its way around your fingers.
You could see Techno's lips moving as he turned to fully face you, but no sound was heard. You sent him a confused look, knowing there wasn't any point in trying to communicate verbally. He shot back an eager look, egging you to scream all you wanted.
Taking a deep breath, you began.
"I don't even know where to start, Techno. I guess I'll start at the beginning.
When you first found me, I was weak as hell. I was basically dead at your side.
I don't know why you chose to help me, or even keep me around, but I'm grateful you did. I really am, even if I don't show it.
But you can't be all nice and comforting to me, the switch up and ditch me."
You hadn't done it consciously, but you were beginning to pace up and down the jagged stone, keeping your eyes away from his.
"That first day that you ignored me, I felt so guilty. More than I had ever in my life. More guilty than when I made a family flee town. I don't know why, but you had that effect on me.
