⊰ chapter seven ⊱

Jungkook swallowed as his gaze rested against Dara's, "What are you-,"

Dara pressed a finger against her lip, silencing Jungkook. Her eyes slowly lurked to the doors and then they pointed at the shadows leaving. There was someone outside the door, eavesdropping. Jungkook watched the shadow walk away completely and when they decided to hear the silence, the footsteps descended from the doors and were no more. He looked back at her, "What does this mean?"

"Someone one is following our moves. Inside the palace, Dara swallowed hard, "Taehyung isn't dead."

A sign of relief from Jungkook as he almost, nearly lost his patience at the news, "Tell me everything."

"There are shadows lurking around the palace. We need to be careful and look for the eavesdropper." Dara hugged her arms, "I can feel the presence of something dark. Ever since Skovier and I closed the gates of the East from my mind and came back alive, I feel something is watching me...," Dara sat on her bed, holding the letter in her hands.

Jungkook exhaled, "You mean something followed you from the East?"

"Something weak followed me from the East," Dara nodded, "It's not strong, I can feel it. The compass can't identify it yet, but it's not strong enough to attack me yet. It's just...hearing." Dara shook her head and then looked at Jungkook, "I speak like a madwoman, aren't I?"

He took the seat beside her, gently shaking his head, "No. I have seen the worst things come true. What's in the letter anyway?"

"Oh," Dara handed the letter to Jungkook, "It is from Taehyung. I gave him an extra seal of the grand spy so no one finds his letters suspicious when he sends them without a bird. He is alright, no one recognizes him yet but the magic of the compass will wear off in a few days. He needs to make it out alive out of the East before that."

"You gave him magic?" Jungkook raised his brows.

"Yes. Or else how will he do his job?" Dara locked her eyes with Jungkook and knew exactly what the eyes wanted to say, "If you are thinking if my affair with Taehyung was anything but true, then no it wasn't. It was to make Theon believe I had nothing to do with you and I wasn't going to marry him anyway. I found him fit for the spy job. I explained to him the night he came to my chambers."

The Prince had his jaws hung open. He stammered for a bit then spoke, "You both pulled an act together?"

"What else could we do?" Dara grinned, "One of the reasons was public entertainment but no one seemed to like my affiliation with Taehyung. Nor did the Theon trick work, I had to send Taehyung the day after before Theon broke up with me about his games. Neither did I marry him."

The Queen looked at her Prince again and found how Jungkook didn't have to steal all of those positions but did anyway so. She didn't believe in fate, but she believed when she checkmates, there was no time to look back.
