Chapter 9

"Doctor I don't mean to slam you with questions first thing.." I started but was interrupted by Jenner.
"But you will." He said.
"We didn't come here for the eggs." Andrea said.
Jenner led us into the big room and went over to the computer.
"Give me a playback of TS-19" Jenner said as the computer Vi repeated the statement.
The big screen at the front was working and showing pictures of what looked like a brain.
"Few people get to see this. Very few." Jenner said as everyone made their way into the room.
The screen showed a view of a human head with a bunch of smaller images on the side. It focused on the brain.

"Is that a brain Carl asked. "An extraordinary one. Not that it matters in the end." Jenner said as he faced the screen. This person was close to him I'm guessing.
"Take us in for an EIV." Jenner said to the computer. It repeated the phrase and the picture zoomed into the brain. It rolled to the side and showed all the lights and signals going through the brain at one time everyone was staring eagerly at the screen, trying to figure this out.
"What are those lights?" Shane asked. I knew they were the signals getting sent through the brain and nervous system to the rest of the body. "Its a persons life. Experiences, memories. Its everything. Somewhere in all that organic wiring all those ripples of light, is you.
The thing that makes you unique and human." Jenner explained.
"Will this make sense ever?" Daryl asked and I slightly laughed.

"Those are synopses. Electric impulses on the brain that carry all the messages. They determine everything a person says, does or thinks from the moment of birth until the moment of death." Jenner said, teaching us.
"Death? What is this? a vigil?" Dad stepped forward and asked.
"Yes. Or rather, a playback of the vigil." Jenner answered.

"This person died? Who?" Andrea asked.
"Test subject 19. Someone who was bitten and infected who volunteered to have us record the process." Jenner explained.
"Vi, scan forward to the event," Jenner said.

"What is that?" Glenn asked.
It looked as though a black cloud has covered the brain. Right next to the spinal cord and Brain stem.
"It invaded the brain like meningitis. The erg renal glands, hemorrhage. The brain goes to shut down. Then the major organs. Then death." Jenner said as the brain went black and the body stopped moving.
He looked down and I knew it was someone he cared about.
"Everything you ever were or ever will be. Gone." Jenner said.
"Is that what happened to Jim?" Sophia asked.
"Yes." Carol answered her daughter.
Andrea was breathing heavily and Jenner turned around to look at her.
"She lost somebody 2 days ago. Her sister" I said as Jenner looked away from Andrea.
"I lost somebody too, I know how devastating it is." Jenner said. Andrea looked up at him as he backed away slowly.
"Scan to the second event." He said as he looked back to his computer.

I know this will be when they come back. It wasn't hard to figure out.
"The resurrection times very widely. We have reports of it happening in as little as three minutes. the longest we heard was eight hours. In this case of this patient, who was two hours one minutes and seven seconds." everyone watched as a part of the brain started to show flickers of red near the stem.
It was only a small section but you could see sparks shooting up the tips.
"It restarts the brain?" Mom asked.
"No, just the brain stem basically. It gets them up and moving." Jenner explained.
"But their not alive?" Dad asked.
"You tell me." Jenner says as he stepped back.
"It's nothing like before most of that brain is dark." Dad said.
"Dark, lifeless, dead. The frontal lobes, the neocortex, the human part, it doesn't come back." I said.
I wanted to be a brain surgeon so in school I always studied the brain.
"The you part. Gone.
Just a shell driving by mindless instincts." Jenner said.
Something came up to the screen and the brain was sliced in half.
It looked like a gunshot.
Must have shot there patient.
"Oh god what was that?!" Carol asked.
"He shot his patient on in the head. Didn't you?" Andrea asked.
"Vi, power down the main screen ad the work stations." Jenner said completely ignored Andrea.

He doesn't know what this is.
None of us do.
