It was annoying that Seonghwa was driving in the direction Hongjoong needed to go, but he was going to have to be careful and hope while he was walking, Seonghwa didn't turn the car around, though, he could hide again.
Taking a step, Hongjoong gasped from the pain in his ankle and leaned against the wall.
"Ow," he muttered repeatedly as he bent over, cradling the sore area and gently rubbing his thumb over it, adding to the pain.
In the dim lighting of the streets illuminated by the light posts, Hongjoong could barely see how bad his injury was. His ankle was swelling from running, putting too much strain on it but he needed to get home. He needed to keep pushing through the pain if he wanted to escape this nightmare officially. Once home, he would be safe. If Seonghwa were sent to jail, Hongjoong wouldn't have to see him ever again.
Since Seonghwa drove away from Hongjoong, he could rest for a few minutes before having to put pressure on his ankle. He winced as he sat down. Sighing, he tilted his head back against the bricks. He wished someone was out so they could help him, but midnight was the time that this side of town shut their doors for the night. All food shops, cafés, small businesses, and other shops were closed, leaving the usually active area eerily quiet. Hongjoong found it strange that Seonghwa lived in an area that didn't have any housing. The closest houses were in Hongjoong's neighbourhood while the town over was a few miles away and the city was a forty-five-minute drive from his home.
The whole time Hongjoong was sitting, he had carefully removed his shoe and was massaging his ankle, hoping it was helping but knew he needed ice to calm the swelling but, of course, he didn't have any on him at the moment, so he chose the next best thing he could think of.
Why did he kick the fucking window? He should've just used the knife much earlier instead of putting his poor foot through all that abuse and now his ankle was sprained because of his dumb thinking.
Oh well, it's now in the past, he can't do anything about his silly decision.
"Okay," Hongjoong breathed out, pressing his lips firmly together as he slipped his shoe back on and used the wall to push himself up. He limped down the quiet streets, hoping to reach home soon and not be caught on the way.
Seonghwa had driven by Hongjoong and Tyler's home but didn't see the man which got his hopes down even more.
He sighed through his nose as he pulled into a parking lot and turned the engine off, the headlights disappearing, sending the area into darkness. Only the dim light from a nearby light pole lit the area. It was silent, except for his loud breathing. He was filled with a sudden burst of anger. He started repeatedly hitting the top of the steering wheel with his palm to the point it was beginning to hurt but he didn't care.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck!" He shouted on each hit and halted momentarily before giving one last smack.
Breathing heavily, he clenched the wheel and let his head fall against it with a dull thud that caused slight pain.
"Hongjoong, where the fuck are you? I..." Seonghwa's voice cracked and he cried. "I can't let you leave me. W-Why... why does everyone leave me?" His heart felt like it was breaking as he sobbed.
Minutes ticked by and Seonghwa thought of just going home, giving up on looking for Hongjoong. He calmed himself down and wiped his face with his long-sleeved shirt. He sat in the lonely silence for a while before starting the car. The lights flashed on and he drove out of the parking lot, planning on making his journey home.
Finally, Hongjoong was home. He could see his apartment and began running, but his whole body was filled with fear when he saw a car in the distance. He couldn't be sure if it were Seonghwa but it didn't matter. He needed to try to wake Tyler because he didn't have his keys and they never left a spare under the mat or anywhere else.
