A Seed Is Planted
Where I found myself was the last place he wanted to be. Another freaking party. And what made this one worse was that I wasn't home so I could sneak away and hide in the comforts of my room. Of course for a little while, until my mother came around looking for her beloved son.
The grand hallway was lined with marble that shone to the point of reflection and let to yet another grander hallway. It was difficult to not be noticed. From where I was sitting, it wasn't enough to hide completely but at least it did the job to some extent.
A lady, who must have been in her mid-thirties, was dressed in a gown that looked like it came straight out of Cinderella's godmother's wand, sat close to an Asian man in a perky suit, fitting him like he was born wearing it. He looked almost too regal. He cleaned up so nice that his suit looked like it could cut you if you leaned in too much.
The chandelier hung low above them, adorned with at least sixty candles on it, lit and shining upon the probably one million gems on stuck on every side. The man played Beethoven's Bagatelle No. 25 in A Minor; or more commonly known as 'Für Elise'. I found that it was hard to tear my eyes away from him. And he also made me feel that maybe I might have been under dressed. I pushed my shiny shoes away from sight and shoved my hands into the pockets of my hoodie.
Just as the man finished playing the piano, the lights went low and the host called everyone to her attention, smiling so proudly that the dimples on her cheeks were visible no matter how far you stood from her. She was holding a glass of champagne that I could bet was untouched. Either drink it or put it down right?
"Thank you all for coming," she said, beaming. A large screen started to descend from behind her as her husband came to stand next to her, the way he squeezed her waist was evident enough. They must have been about to announce whatever the reason for the party was.
"This is usually the worst part," a voice said and I nearly jumped out of my skin with how sudden and how close the voice was. "Hey Hoodie," said Kit with a mischievous smile.
"Kit!" I honestly did not understand why I was shocked to see him. "What are doing here?"
He looked at me quizzically. "Uh...I live here?"
The shock must have been evident on my face because he laughed at me. "Your house is so...so white." It really was.
"Come on!" He grabbed my hand and I had no choice but to follow along, wherever he was taking me.
"Where are we going?" I asked desperately trying to fall in step with him.
"I'm returning a favor, saving you from this, same way you saved me before," he said as we passed by a large dining area with the table already laid out and designed to sit at least forty people. Yeah, no, I actually did not want to be a part of any of that.
