Guns and KitKats
Kayden was right. I loved Rylee and Rylan! Ree was so smart, and Ry was so funny. I was a thousand times grateful that Kay had asked me to stay. This definitely beats being at home and doing close to nothing.
Killian's frustration grew worse as more time went by, and all the while I ignored my dad. More shocking than anything else was how easily the kids convinced him to spend his time at the Mad Egg together with us.
It happened like this; Ree suddenly poked Ry's side and quickly whispered something to her brother's ear, to which his face lit up and he sprang to his feet. "We, shall be right back," he announced with a face that was clearly up to no good. Ree followed giddily behind him. Kay looked like he wanted to protest, but also wanted to find out what the kids were up to.
Not even five minutes later, he looked out of place being led inside the diner, Ree ecstatically pulling him inside by his hand, and Ry, hand clasped into his from the back, as if to make sure there was no going back at all. It looked like the sweetest form of bullying.
My stoic-like bodyguard sat across from me and Kay, between two children, who were unaware that they just accomplished the impossible. He looked almost awkward in his suit, looking overdressed for the occasion. Then he looked irritated when he looked at us. "Not one word, from either of you."
Kay and I too, accomplished the impossible, we stifled the hell out of the laughs trying to escape from us.
The waitress—a plump and short girl with black pigtails falling on each of her shoulders—put our food on the table. Ree immediately emptied out her fries to free up the plate, then asked Kay to cut up her cheeseburger in half. She took the half for herself and put the other on the empty plate, then pushed it towards Killian. "For you," she said.
Killian didn't know what to do with himself. Rylan looked so fascinated that he too, took his own burger and cut it into half, then put the half onto Killian's new plate. He seemed to think about the decision he was making. "Nahh," he said, then took back the half, cut it into two, and put the new quarter on Killian's plate. "For you," he said sweetly.
If you watched closely, you'd see just how much Rylan looked up to his twin sister. Because at that moment, looking like he felt bad, he picked up his fries and emptied half of them onto Killian's plate. God those kids were just adorable.
I don't think I have ever seen Killian smile so widely before. He made no move to pick up the food, but he seemed to get even more comfortable, completely at ease.
"You're going to eat right?" As she took a bite of her burger, worry etched around her brows. I wonder if children understood just how innocent they were, and how lovely.
