Shadows Know Me

Chapter Ten

Shadows disappeared as morning light casted upon my dorm. Body still frozen like ice with no motivation to get myself up for class. I just lay still. Hour by hour passed as I missed every class I had.

No one checked up on me. I cleaned the flower pedals off my bed and floor, throwing the roses in the trash, and taking the necklace Mattheo gave off and back into its box. Trying to find some sort of comfort I reread the diaries over and over. I ignored every post my parents had sent me.

Soft knocks on my door. I didn't answer. It went away. Then it returned only growing louder. I finally excepted after throwing myself under the sheets.

"You didn't come to class." Draco sternly said lifting the sheets off my head.

He could see darkness under my eyes. Exposed all my bruises left. Every scratch. Every inch that burned. What he didn't see was my mark.

"Bloody hell Mae! What happened?" He concerned.

"Long night. You should leave." I weakly said as every inch of me still ached.

He opened my drapes exposing the light even more. He pours me a cup of water then sets it on my side table. Grabbing my hand he sat beside me on the bed. His lips being so soft, kissed my forehead. I felt comfort. He didn't even question what had happened to me. Yet he still was trying to protect me. If he knew though, he'd never be able to.

"Get some rest. I'll catch you up on school work tomorrow." He comforted. I just nodded.

He left the room and a slight breeze coming from outside sends chills down my body. I attempt to sleep off everything but I'm unable to drift. Knocks at my door appear once more. Always knocking. I let out a weak "come in." And his figure appeared.

"Draco?" I questioned but it wasn't him. He was just here.

"No love, even better. It's Mattheo." He smiled. He completely acted like he did nothing to me. My whole body froze in place and it felt like I was unable to breathe.

"Hey" I reply back unknowing what I should say.

"I brought you a gift." He smiled again holding up a gift bag.

"Another one? Why are you being nice to me?" I whined as I'm trying to get myself to at least sit up.

"I'm not a complete dick. Come on now, open it." He goes on.

I sit up finally and grab the gift bag. Everything was wrapped neatly. Inside the bag was some chocolates and a new dress. I didn't bother taking it out of the bag though.

"I didn't know what you'd like. If it's not to your liking I could get you something else." He stated while brushing the hair out of my face.

"No that's not necessary, it's beautiful." I reply still weak.

"I'll leave you to rest tonight. Don't want to tire out my prized possession." He laughed with the grin wiped back into his face.

Leaving the room I placed the gift bag on the floor and grab an empty journal. I write down a few of my experiences. Something to leave in case someone finds it. Something that could tell my story without having a word leave my mouth. After making a few entry's I put the journal away.

I decided it was time to finally pick myself up and at least walk around. It's past curfew but fresh air was most needed. Wondering around I find myself in the courtyard. I hear something making its way around me. Twisting my body I see a shadow. It disappeared but when I turn back around my uncle stands in front of me.

"It's past curfew. Why are you out of bed?" He hissed and I knew I was in deep trouble.

He grabbed my arm and we apparated to his house. I've only remembered being here a couple of times in the past.

"You didn't show to any classes and look terrible. Tell me what's going on." He worried.

"It's nothing I've just been um-" I try to let out but Narcissa and another death eater had shown up as I was speaking.

"Narcissa, Bellatrix, nice of you to visit. Mae head upstairs for a bit." He told me.

"There's no need this will be quick." Bellatrix grinned. You could see the crazy in her eyes. How she wanted me to know what was happening.

They talked for a while while Bellatrix tried touching everything in the room. Bringing up Draco and his task given by the dark lord. They never said what it was but whatever it was I hope it wasn't anything as bad like the tasks I was given.

"Before we do this, how can I trust your niece Severus?" Bellatrix hissed.

My uncle can't find anything to say and it had left me no choice but to show my loyalty to the dark lord that was forced upon me. Lifting up my sleeve I reveal the dark mark that is bared on my skin. Gasps fill the room while Bellatrix laughs and jumps with excitement. Severus can't seem to find any words and fear filled Narcissa's eyes.

I didn't say a word. My uncle completed an unbreakable vow to help Draco while I sat in silence. No one could find the words to say anything but Bella.

"We are finished here. Nice to have you join us dear." She grinned at me before they had left.

The room filled with silence and my head filled with secrets I had to keep. Grabbing my water off the table my uncle grabs my arm that had the mark and felt it burnt into my skin. Trying to figure out if this really happened.

"How?" He hissed.

"I-"

"Tell me how you got this. We didn't want you being dragged into this. We didn't want either of you to be in this." He sternly claimed while I sat frozen trying to come up with a reason without telling the full truth.

"I've received notes from the dark lord. Saying how I need to make up for my families betrayal." I told him but he grew with anger.

He just sat in disbelief.

"Has he given you any tasks?" He asked but I lied. I told him not yet.

"Draco said he'd protect me. Im safe uncle Severus trust me!" I cry out.

"You think Draco will protect you from this kind of darkness? You don't know what you've gotten yourself into. I made the unbreakable vow to protect Draco. Now I have to protect you too." He ranted on with his blood boiling.

He sent me back to Hogwarts without saying anything else while I sat in the common room unknowing what will come next. I can hear fighting coming from around the corner and I see Pansy completely upset with Draco.

"I've done everything for you Dray! I've been by your side since 1st year!"

"I never asked you to!"

"I was just trying to help you! You never tell me anything anymore! You probably sneak around with that slut. Don't you?!"

They make their way to where I'm sitting. I'm unnoticed until Draco looks me dead in the eye and Pansy turns around to see me sitting behind her.

"This is all your fault. You should just go back from where you came from!" She yelled at me.

"Pansy you don't rude. She did nothing." He tried calming her and running after her while I sat there watching them pace and fight. I left them to it and tried to find some peace in my dorm.
