Aditi

A cow that cares and nourishes all. She promises to give an endless supply of milk to all humans on the condition that humans behave as her calve and treat her with respect because harming her would harm the Earth itself. Aditi means ‘Limitless’. She is mother of the gods (devamatri) from whose cosmic matrix the heavenly bodies were born. As celestial mother of every existing form and being, the synthesis of all things, she is associated with space (akasa) and with mystic speech.
