the romanos
—the 12th for most other people is a normal boring day but it was special for some. the romanos were sending away one child in the family to columbia. she had done nothing wrong to deserve it, the decision was made by a need for power. her bags were packed and her flight was ready, all that was left was the takeoff.
"make sure to call us everyday and let us know what happens, okay?" victorias mother kissed her head.
victoria rolled her eyes and moved up one more stair and into the plane to get out of her mothers reach. her favorite cousin, astrid, walked infront of her mother.
"you'll call me too? bring back some souvenirs for poor astrid, right?" astrid pulled down on victorias jacket and looked up at her.
the worker on the plane came from behind victoria to warn her.
"we'll have to take off soon, get ready." the lady walked away once more.
victoria smiled and waved at her family, although it was a family of 'villains' they still cared for each other. once she was fully in along with her bags the doors shut. nothing could be more boring than sitting on an empty plane by yourself for 12 hours. the long, painfully boring flight was full of only movies and realizing the worker hated her.
having the ability to read minds was a blessing but also a curse. the way you know what you need to know but also way too much. when she was in school as a child it was hard to hear everything that everyone thinks. eventually it got easier and easier, knowing there was nothing to do about it. the way that she could at least know that there was a whole other family out there with the same things felt better at first. that was before she knew their history, the fights, the hatred between them both, the way they had raised their children to hate each other.
"we're 15 minutes from landing." the worker let her know, the annoyance in her voice growing each time she stopped by.
the final minutes passed faster than they ever have before, making it feel like only seconds had passed. the reason may be that she had been on facetime for the past 6 hours with her best friend to keep her company but who knows? the pilots voice rang through the plane with the words she had needed to hear.
"do you have to go now?" colette whined and fell backwards onto her bed.
"yes, colette. you know why i'm here, i can't mess it up." victoria didnt choose to go, it felt like a long long chore to her.
this was her way of making her family proud.
"don't replace me please..." she knew she wouldn't be replaced but why not be safe?
they had been friends for as long as they could remember, their mothers being close as kids. complete opposite families but the romanos promised they would never harm a single one of the zarros.
"of course not. also can you make sure to take care of annie?"
"sure, ok bye!" colette waved to the phone and kissed the camera goodbye.
the trip stressed her out more than anything had in years. she hadn't used her power in quite a long time from what she had gotten from it before. the ability could only work if she made direct eye contact with someone and that was the scariest part. she would somehow have to find her way into the madrigals home.
"thank you." victoria thanked the pilot and worker and stepped off of the plane.
(idk how private planes work bro im broke asf) the car waiting for her on the road ahead rolled its window down and a man peaked his head out. her eyebrows raised and she hesitated to walk over to the car. her bags were put in the trunk and she sat in the backseat.
