the meeting
pt. 2
im sorry in advance
—
both families
—both families sat at the long and wide dinner table, complete silence among them. it was a rare experience to be sitting at a table with either one of these families and have it quiet. they were both very talkative, though with different subjects.
abuela looked over at arlo who had his head kept up high. she redirected her gaze to victoria who physically had her nose lower than her fathers but mentally she had it pointing to the sky. she hated it. she hated being with the family she despised. she hated her grandson for loving one of them even more. she hated herself for being in this stupid fight with victor, the eldest. they had been friends, more than friends at one point. their relationship was secret and eventually once she asked for him to tell everyone, he left her for another woman.
"so.. victoria what were your intentions? tell the truth." mirabel asked.
victoria let out a dry laugh and cleared her throat, looking at mirabel. her gaze made the madrigal feel small, even when she was trying to be the one in charge right then.
"i needed information on all of you."
"and why did you do it?"
"it would grant me more power."
camilo looked at his girlfriend with a sad look and she ignored it. the plan was still going amazingly, she was doing better than anyone in the past.
"what would you do with that power?"
"destroy you."
a quiet gasp came from the madrigals side of the table. victoria continued eating like nothing had happened, making abuela recoil in disgust. if she thought her perfect grandchild was imperfect she hated everything about victoria. the whole time she answered the questions she would maintain eye contact.
"why do you hate us?"
"you're the only people holding me back. i could do so much without you."
camilo kept his head low while victoria kept the eye contact. there was one question that made her break it.
"do you still hate us?"
her eyes lowered and the madrigals noticed immediately.
"no." she grumbled.
"look me in the eyes and ill believe you."
"cant do that, sorry."
whispers could be heard on the other side of the table. colette noticed at last and leaned to victoria who had a small smirk on her face.
"whats happening?"
victoria shot a look over to dolores who was staring her down.
"i thought it would be obvious that i love my power over anything. i guess i didnt make that obvious enough for them. too bad, i thought they were smarter than that."
dolores widened her eyes and immediately rushed to tell her family. victor and arlo looked over at victoria, her sending back a quick nod. her family knew what was happening, they wanted it to happen. everything that arlo and elizabeth had said was part of the plan.
"you.. lied?" camilo asked, pain in his voice.
victoria looked over at him with a truly sad look, not able to meet his eyes. she had cared for him more than she wanted to allow herself to believe, there was only one person able to see it. astrid looked at her cousin with a pitiful look, wanting to comfort her but knowing it was not the time. if it was up to victoria, it would never be the time. soon it would be up to her. arlo had been the one before to stand up and try to prove himself worthy of his fathers rank. after he failed, his daughter surprised him with her skills and power. victoria could do well and she showed it with everything, everyone was impressed. everyone but the madrigals.
