Y/n's POV
I slid open my window and crawled inside my apartment. I silently tiptoed to my bathroom and stepped on top of my toilet to reach my ceiling. I removed part of it and pulled out a black duffel bag. Inside was wads of cash. I picked up the bag of money I stole from the jewelry store and dumped it into the duffel bag.
Once I was finished I stuffed the duffel bag back into the ceiling and returned the piece of ceiling that I removed back in its place.
Walking out the bathroom I turned off the light and headed to the living room. I sat down on the couch and kicked my heels off. I groaned as I laid myself onto my couch.
Just as I was about to close my eyes I heard a click and a small light lit up the room. I sat up and looked to my left.
"Did I wake you?", I asked sheepishly.
My brother sat in his bed with his arms crossed and a disapproving look. "No, I've been up all night waiting for you"
I stood up from the couch and walked to his bed. "You didn't have to..."
"Where did you go?", he asked. Ignoring what I said.
"Out."
"Out where?"
"Sorry little brother, but I don't have to tell you that", I said ruffling his hair.
He pushed my hand off and gave me a sad look. "Y/n...where did you-"
He then looked down and noticed what I was wearing. "Why are you wearing that?"
Saying nothing I sat down at the edge of his bed with my head down.
"I thought you left that life behind?", I could hear the sadness in his voice.
I sighed as I ran my hands through my hair. "I tried, James. I really did, but the bills just kept piling on and my job was only paying me $13 an hour. We would've never survived on that".
Tears filled his eyes. "This is all my fault. If I never got sick you wouldn't be needing to do this", his voice was shaky.
"No, don't say that", I softly grabbed his face, cupping his cheeks. "None of this is your fault. I chose to do this", I assured him.
"I wish you wouldn't"
Moving closer to him I pulled him into a hug. I could hear him sniffle a couple times from crying.
I wish I could give him a better life, but it's not possible. We have to keep a low profile so he doesn't find us.
I wanted to change the topic to brighten his mood. "Hey, do you know anything about Spider-man?", I asked.
"No. Why did you run into him tonight? Y/n is he chasing you down. If so you need to stop this immediately!", he shouted. Well, that backfired.
"No, I didn't. I just heard on the streets that he might be back. That's all", I brushed his hair with my hand to calm him. The last thing I wanna do is worry him even more.
I felt James's body relax and his breathing go steady as he fell asleep in my arms. Slowly, I laid him back down. I brushed a couple strands of hair from his face before getting up and walking back to the bathroom.
I took a quick shower and wrapped a towel around my body. I grabbed a plain black t-shirt and some sweats and got dressed. Once I was finished I went and sat down on the couch and turned the tv on.
The news was the first to pop up.
"Hello, I am J. Jonah. Jameson and this is the Daily Bugle late night news!"
