laughter filled the air as the tipsy friend group talked amongst themselves in the main room of the house they were staying in. for the entirety of their existence, yangyang and shotaro could say this was the most fun they ever had. donghyuck had the stupid idea of going outside to break the empty now empty beer bottles.
some time had passed since the people who'd searched for survivors passed their street, meaning it was now safe to go outside. no one stopped the boy as he picked up all the bottles in his hands and practically ran outside. he began to throw them to the floor with full force, the sound of glass shattering and cheering from the other boys hugging their ears.
"is this legal?!" jeno asked, his eyes glossy with intoxication.
"do you even know where we are right now?" jaemin responded, referring to the fact that they'd spent almost a full week in a world that had no laws. not anymore, at least.
donghyuck quickly grew tired after a cluster of broken glass formed in the streets. he turned around, looking slightly dizzy. "i regret that. it was fun while it lasted." he said as he placed his hands on his hips, earning laughs from the others.
yangyang wrapped an arm over the boys shoulders as they turned to walk back inside. nari, for some reason, had found herself wanted to sit outside a bit longer. she enjoyed the small breeze and the quite, calmness that engulfed her. she hadn't felt any sort of relaxation in the time she spent there.
jaemin was the only one to notice her plop down on the steps as she looked up at the stars in admiration. he sat down next to her, nari not looking but him watching intently as the moon lit up her features. he was almost captivated.
"you okay?" he asked, his voice raspy from yelling. nari turned to him with a nod.
"i'm okay. you?"
"i'm good." his eyes didn't move from her face as they chuckled lightly together before she looked away. they sat in silence together, just enjoying each others company. nari didn't realize how close he sat to her until she felt his finger tips brush against her leg, not able to tell if it was an accident or not.
when he quickly pulled his hand back, that's when she assumed it must have been an accident. jaemin hiccupped, as he was still sort of drunk but not enough to where he didn't know what was going on around him.
"wanna know something?" nari asked in a slight childlike manner. one that made the boy assume what she was about to say was going to be completely innocent.
"hm?"
"i'm starting to think we're never getting home."
the statement made the energy between them shift slightly. "at this point, i don't wanna think about it. would you be like... upset, if we were stuck here forever?"
nari shrugged. "i don't know. for me it's not much different than before, except i wasn't scavenging for food and shelter before."
jaemin laughed, enjoying how she felt comfortable enough with him now that she was cracking jokes in not very joke-worthy conversations. "true."
"nari, you're slowly becoming my favorite person, you know." the boy abruptly admitted after another moment of silence.
a shocked expression fell over naris face as she turned to him. "wow, you mean it?"
jaemin nodded and hummed cutely which earned a laugh from nari. neither of them could explain why they enjoyed each others presence so much, they just did. it was unspoken but they were thinking the same thing in that moment. how they wished it would last forever. nari couldn't quite pinpoint exactly what it was what she was feeling, it being romantic or platonic, and the thought scared her.
"i'm glad we ended up in detention together," nari admitted, still keeping her eyes in front of her. jaemin turned his head again, a genuine smile forming. he found the random confession so adorable.
after spending just a bit longer outside together, jeno opened the door with a sigh of relief when he realized the two had just been right outside, and not missing. that's when the two decided it was time for them to go back inside.
"aw, the couple," donghyuck cooed the second he watched the pair enter. jaemin rolled his eyes, sticking up his middle finger at the boy while he just stuck his tongue out at him childishly.
at this point it been so late in the night that the silence was overpowering. the six boys decided to go to sleep, and it didn't take long for them to since they were still tipsy. nari hadn't really slept at all after the incident, she'd just lie there hoping to eventually drift off, but it would never happen.
as she heard light snores around her, she sat up with a sigh and brushed her tangled hair back with her hand. she pressed her feet on the cold ground, standing up fully and tiptoeing past the sleeping boys and to the front door. it was obviously not the smartest idea to go outside by herself past midnight, but she couldn't stop herself for some reason.
after stepping outside fully, the door shutting behind her, something struck.
"guys," a warm jaemin shot up from his sleep, looking around him.
"guys," he called again, shaking the person closest to him, which happened to be yangyang. the boy groaned before he eventually sat up, looking at jaemin with a puffy, confused face.
"what? whats wrong?" yangyang groggily asked, rubbing his eyes.
jaemin quickly got up to switch on a lamp, looking around the room and when he didn't spot what he was looking for, he ran to another part of the house.
"what—guys," yangyang said, "jaemins freaking out."
renjun was the third person to wake up, the others still sound asleep. "what the hell is going on?"
yangyang shrugged and the two sat there in utter confusion before jaemin came back with a heavy breaths and a shaken body.
"nari. nari is missing."
