A/N: I apologize in advance...

Scarlett's P.O.V

Blood.

There was so much blood.

"Scarlett!" I heard Alex call out as I dropped to my knees screaming.

All over the walls. All over the ceiling. The carpet was soaked as Maria lay there, bleeding out.

His toys that he never got to play with had blood splatter all over them.

I didn't think that so much blood could be in one person.

Then again, I didn't think that my son would be missing either.

"Scarlett! Scarlett, look at me!" Alex said as he tried to calm me down.

"My baby!" I cried out as I sobbed into his chest.

Gone. Vanished without a trace. And all I could do was scream and cry and wish I hadn't left the house. Wish I hadn't left my baby boy alone. I knew who had him. There's only one person in this godforsaken world that would want my son.

"He took him, Alex! He took him!" I cried as my father stood in the doorway, eyes wide at the sight before him.

Everything afterward was a blur. Josiah and the guards were called to comb through everything in the room in an effort to look for some sort of clue as to where they might be. The guards who were on watch we found in Federico's room, gassed with the same poison Alex used to use. And unfortunately enough, Federico and his family were nowhere to be found. Cade's father was also amongst the missing.

"What are you doing in here? You should go sleep," Alex said when he found me in Axel's room at three in the morning.

"Sleep?" I asked as if it was the most ridiculous suggestion. "How could I sleep when that monster has my child and there's nothing I can do to get him back?" I asked.

"Ba-,"

"If it weren't for my fa-," I started

"No," he said, cutting me off. "I know you want someone to blame, but blaming your father isn't the answer," he said.

"My son is out there, cold and hungry. He needs me, Alex. I need him," I cried.

"If you want someone to blame, you blame me," he replied as he held my face in his hands.

"Alex," I began.

"It's my own negligence and unpreparedness that led to this situation. If I had only upped the security some more, maybe this wouldn't have happened," he said

"Alex, you can't blame yourself," I said.

"Of course I blame myself, Scar. I look at that little boy as if he's my own. I know how happy he makes you, and because of me your happiness is gone," he replied as I softly cried into his chest.

"Alex," I began as I looked up at him.

"I'll find him for you and when I do, I promise to give Cade the most painful death possible," he replied. "After that, I'll help you disappear," he added, regret and hurt in his eyes.

"Alex? Alex, no. What are you ta-," I began.

"I've been doing some thinking on it recently. Regardless of if Cade is still a threat or not in the future, people will always be coming after you and Axel because of your ties to me," he said.
