Scarlett's P.O.V
"You want me to do what?" I asked. He's fucking insane.
3 hours prior
As the bus rumbled its way through the vibrant landscapes, my anticipation grew with each passing mile. I watched through the window, eyes wide with wonder, as the scenery transformed into a picturesque tableau of rugged mountains and vast desert plains. The golden hues of the sun-kissed mesas beckoned me closer, whispering tales of history and culture.
As we approached Santa Fe, a palpable sense of enchantment filled the air. The bus rolled into the heart of the city, and my eyes darted from adobe structures adorned with intricate turquoise accents to the vibrant markets brimming with art and crafts. The bustling streets were alive with a symphony of colors, blending the ancient traditions of the Southwest with the vibrant spirit of a modern metropolis.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Sante Fe, New Mexico," the bus driver said into the microphone as we pulled into the bus station.
"Axle, Amara. It's time to go guys, we're here," I said as I shook my kids awake.
Stepping off the bus, I inhaled the crisp desert air, tinged with the faint scent of piñon and sage. The atmosphere crackled with a sense of artistic energy, as if the very air carried the stories of generations past. Scanning the crowd of people, I saw a man holding a sign that said "SAA" and walked up to him.
"Luciano?" I asked, testing to see if he'd give me the right name.
"No, Marcelo," he replied.
"Great. I was told to meet you here," I said as I scanned my surroundings.
"Yes, this way please," he said as he led us to a black SUV. Tossing the duffel bag into the trunk, I help the kids into the car and seat them on either side of me so they can look out the windows as we drive to Lord knows where.
2:30 PM the phone reads as I look down on it.
"Is there anywhere you would like to stop?" Marcelo asked as he looked back at me.
"Is there a McDonald's nearby?" I asked.
"Yes, there is one very close to the house," he replied.
"Great, there would be nice," I replied with a small smile.
"Very well," he replied.
"Mommy, what's a McDonald's?" Axle asked.
"I have a feeling you're going to love it, don't worry," I said as I brushed my fingers through his hair.
An hour later we arrived at the McDonald's drive thru and both Amara and Axle looked at it with wide eyes.
"People it here?" Axle asked.
"Yes, honey," I replied.
"And you can play too!" he exclaimed.
"Yes, baby," I replied with a chuckle.
"Mommy, can we stay?" he asked.
"Another time, honey. Right now we have some things we need to take care of," I replied.
"Oh right for our-," he stopped and looked at Marcelo, "for our adventure," he whispered as he looked back at me.
"What will the kids be having?" Marcelo asked.
"Two six piece kids meals please," I replied.
"And for yourself?" he asked.
"Um, a cheeseburger and a McChicken,"
