Scarlett's P.O.V
"She is a baby, Cade! She didn't know what she was doing!" I yelled.
"You're supposed to be watching them and making sure that they don't disturb me! Do you know how many important documents she destroyed?" he snapped.
"They are your kids, Cade! Maybe if you paid a little fucking attention to them, rather than pretending they don't exist, then maybe they wouldn't be so desperate for your attention!" I snapped.
"Don't raise your fucking voice at me," he warned.
"That's always what you revert back to when you know I'm right!" I yelled, not caring what the consequences would be. "At the end of the day, she is your child just as much as she is mine. It's time you grow the fuck up and start acting like a father!" I yelled.
"It's your job to raise them! Your job to keep them out of my office and out of my way! If she wasn't such a fucking idiot and didn't spill her juice all over my fi-,"
"Don't you dare disrespect my fucking daughter!" I warned. "She wanted to spend time with her father! That's what kids do! If you didn't want the responsibility that comes with kids, you shouldn't have raped me!" I shouted.
"You are my wife! You'll do as you're told! Go and bring her in here," he snapped.
"Why? So you can hit her again?" I asked, my blood boiling.
"She needs to learn her lesson," he replied.
"What she needs, hell what they both need, is a little attention from their father! God, were you that neglected as a child that you think hitting your own kids because they wanted to spend time with you is the answer? That's pathetic and I pity you," I spat.
"You're gonna shut the fuck up and listen to me," he said as he walked towards me a placed a hand around my throat. As the back of my head hit the wall, I clawed at Cade's hand in an effort to get it off of my throat. "You are my wife and in my house! I make the fucking rules here! When I say to do something, you fucking do it! I don't give a shit about what you know or what you think you know. As long as you're living under this roof, you abide by my rules!" he seethed as he let me go.
"I won't-I won't let you hit my daughter," I said as I tried to catch my breath.
"She's my daughter just as much as she is yours, right?" he asked rhetorically. "Bring her here so she can get the attention she so badly craves while I teach her a lesson. If you don't," he said as his cold, dead eyes stared at me, "I'll give her a punishment much worse than what you ever suffered," snapped.
I'm so sorry, baby.
—
"M-m-mama?" Amara stuttered as she walked into her brother's room.
"My baby, I'm so sorry," I said as I pulled her in for a hug.
"M-mama i-it h-hurts," she sniffled.
"I know, baby, I'm sorry," I said as tears filled my eyes.
"Why did daddy hit Mara, mommy?" Axel asked.
"Daddy's just in a really bad mood today, okay? It's best we all just stay out of his way," I replied. "Come, Amara, I've got some lotion put up that should help," After taking some lotion into my hands and rubbing the soothingly on all of her sore spots, I shower them and tuck them in for an early bed.
"Mama?" Axel asked.
"Yes, baby?"
"Does daddy love us?" he asked.
"Of course he does, baby. Why do you ask?" I asked as I brushed his curly hair away from his face.
"Well," he started off, lost in thought, "I'm just confused, mommy,"
