What he said didn't make any sense to me. Are our parents close allies? He just had to make fun of my dead parents & disgrace them? Making me believe they weren't good people? That's absolutely unacceptable. I was still wondering why I had slapped him. And I know why.
Because he was mad to drag my parents & accuse them of being a part of his world. A world of heartless people. I wasn't quite sure as to what gang leader he was. But I wasn't naive enough to believe that it was nothing huge. He was clearly a powerful person. I could see it in the eyes of people who were with him. Those dressed in black, men who were always at his disposal. They'd kill or get killed without him having to even express what we wanted done. Those people, the ones who obeyed the devil. Their eyes held great respect, maybe even loyalty but something deeper than that rested there. Fear. Fear of the consequences of not obeying their boss. Fear of what would happen to them if they break his trust. Fear of becoming his prey.
But that was not it. These people were a greater force than what I could perceive. And I have to know who they are. For me to plan against them, I have to know them first. I might not be capable compared to them but at least I'd die trying.
After the devil's brief visit that day. I was being fed properly. No one would talk to me or give me any attention for me to try & get something out of them. But I assume it was good for now. It was progress.
When three days passed, I was tired of waiting endlessly. So I started to talk to whoever entered to leave the food for me. At last when it was dinner time yesterday. A man brought a tray with a glass of milk, fruit bread & meat inside what I'd call my cellar. Given that I might have been here for over a week.
"Who's your boss anyway?"The man ignored me. I continued nonetheless. "Hello sir, please. Would you mind telling me who kidnapped me?Hello?"He set the tray and then left right after loosening the knots across my wrists & ankles enough for me to eat, just how it always was.
Well, I guess I'd try until I succeed then. After I was done, they strapped me back, tightening & rechecking their work. After the night fell, it was too dark for me to make out anything so I succumbed to slumber.
Around midnight the metal of my door lock clanged & my room suddenly lit heavily. Too much of the led lighting poured in making it hard for me to keep my eyes open. I never knew the room had these many lights inside.
When I finally became accustomed to it I found the devil in front. My heartbeat thrummed with anticipation of my fate to unfold before me. Will I die today? Finally will everything end for good? I looked at the walls that held me all this time. Guess I'll just stay patient & be grateful for however much of life I was granted with. With my unsaid farewell to the room I let my head hang between my legs in a deep sigh that was almost inaudible. Wet prickled in my eye, there was no use of letting myself come as weak in front of them but if I were to die anytime now I might as well do anything without caring about anyone.
"Untie her", the devil breathed. I peered at him through my dark orbs. Teary eyes filled with confusion. For a moment I felt the same thing flash in his men's eyes too but then they obliged to his words. I was free, or was I?
The devil dismissed his men & the door shut behind them. He neared me, I backed until my legs hit the front of the chair. The devil & me alone. In a room. Nowhere to escape. As the memories of last time we were alone resurfaced. My cheeks turned plum red with the embarrassment I felt. He brought his hand up to my face. It felt rough & calloused. He wiped the tear off my cheek & put his slender fingers to my hair, tucking them behind he moved to my ear and whispered in his husky voice, "If you promise to respect me, I will continue what I was going to tell you", he then backed away leaving his masculine scent lingering in the air. A shiver ran through my body as I registered what just happened, his voice felt so good & yet it was wrong of me to think this way.
I lowered my eyes knowing I can't guarantee what I will do if I hear anything against my parents. He held my chin cruelly & forced me to meet his eyes. "Do you promise, butterfly?", he hissed out unlike earlier when I felt like he was capable of any human emotion, who was I fooling with such hope anyways. His eyes, I looked into them as I finally told him 'yes', those dark eyes of his that hold similarity to these black holes. You go for them once & then you drown into it forever. The same devilish eyes that hold fire within, they remain void of any emotion, maybe the fire in his eyes burned everything with it.
