Luv that last chap.
“Where are we?” Mason asks warily.
“Somewhere,”
“Somewhere where?”
“Somewhere where we are! Please Mason, stop asking questions,” Liam begs.
Mason rolls his eyes. “How do you expect me to just sit back while you get us lost in the woods at night?!” Mason whines again.
Liam groans and glares at Mason. “Well you're whining doesn't help!” Mason grunts and follows Liam reluctantly.
They here a hiss in the midst of darkness and they both freeze. “What was that?” Liam whispers.
“Ssshhhh Liam. Stop asking questions,” Mason mocks.
Liam glares back at him with an irritated look. The hiss comes again, closer this time. Liam gulps as he pulls out his claws and canines.
A few hours back, Liam bought Mason a knife so he could defend himself. Then Mason had bought another one just to make sure after Liam had already left the store. He whipped out the sharp, long, daggers quickly and readied himself for combat.
They saw a large creature coming toward them from a few feet away. “What do we do?!” Mason says, panicking.
“Up the tree! Now!” Liam says authoritatively and they rush to the closest, tallest tree they could find.
Liam climbed it with ease and Mason used his knives to dig holes in the tree to pull himself up.
They got a few feet off the ground when the creature came to the tree, lurking around it.
“Jacks?” Mason breathed out.
“Jacks,” Liam confirmed.
“Does it know we're up here?”
At that very moment the creature tries to leap up into the trees but is cut short by a few inches. “I think so!” Liam hisses in fear.
“Go higher!” Mason commands and starts climbing higher in the tree. Liam follows.
The creature tries again to jump up the tree but fails.
“You would think they would know how to climb by now, right?” Mason asks in a tiresome voice.
“Actually, yeah,” Liam says, becoming interested.
The creature tries again and this time it digs its nails into the bark and it gets a hold. “Dammit. I should really just shut up shouldn't I?” Mason says.
“Okay, that I can definitely agree to,” Liam hisses in the darkness.
Liam kicks the creature so hard in the face that it tumbles backwards into the dirt, forest floor.
“He's not gonna leave. We need to get it away from us,” Mason suggests. Liam nods. Liam takes off his shoe and throws it far away . It makes a thud as it hits the ground and the thing turns around, looking into the distance.
“Go! Go! Go!” Mason and Liam jump down from the tree and their feet make a thud. The creature turns back to them but they're already a few feet away.
That's when the accident happens.
Liam suddenly falls to his knees and screams in agony. He grunts as he breathes heavily and clutches Mason's ankle.
“Liam! What happened! We need to keep moving come on! Liam!” Mason begs as the creature comes closer.
Mason gives up and takes a deep breath. He turns around and holds one of his daggers out. “Please! Don't make me do this!” The creature keeps going. “I'm warning you!” The creature hisses. “Get away from us!” Mason yells, his voice cracking as Liam screams again in agony.
Before Mason knew it, the creature had jumped on him. He heard it struggle as they went tumbling to the ground. Then, silence. Mason opens his eyes to see the creature on top of him and something cold and wet. It was dead. He threw the thing that was once a man off of him and backed away. He shuddered in fear and disgust. Mason looked down. He and his knife were covered in blood.
He dropped the knife, shaking uncontrollably.
For the first time ever….
Mason had killed in cold blood.
“Oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god,” Mason repeated over and over again until he heard Liam scream again. He shakily crawled over to him.
“Liam what the hell happened!” But his questions were soon answered.
Grabbing Liam's ankle were two half-circled objects that had metal teeth at the end of each which were digging into Liam's skin on each side. He was in a choke hold on his ankle. “Oh my god,” Mason whispered.
Lima grunts again before speaking. “It's a bear trap. If you step on it and raise your foot, it'll catch it, capture you in a painful hold until the hunter comes to gather it,” Liam explains, obviously in lots of pain. “Once you step on it, you're done for,”
“What the hell that's so dangerous what idiot would do that!?”
“You…have no…..idea,” Liam chokes out.
“I'll try to get help,” Mason stands up but Liam stops him. “No. I've got this,” Liam's eyes begin to glow and he holds the two rows of metal teeth in his hands. He pulls them apart, his fingers digging into the tiny blades.
He gets it lose and pulls his ankle out, letting go of the trap and letting the teeth snap together again. It was covered with blood.
Liam's blood.
“Can you walk?” Mason asks.
Liam tries to stand up but fails miserably. “Nope. Not at all. Help?” Liam asks as Mason rushes to his side.
Liam slings his arm over Mason's shoulders and he helps him limp through the forest.
“Do you wannna go and try to find your shoe?” Mason asks.
Liam smiles. “Nah. It's cool. A shoe's not worth back tracking. Lets just keep moving forward,” Liam suggests.
“Okay……..Liam?”
“Yeah?”
“I killed someone,”
“You did it to save us,” Liam says.
“But……but killing is wrong,”
Liam freezes and so does Mason, looking at him. Liam doesn't make eye contact.
“Not if they're trying to kill you,” Liam says in a small voice.
And with that, Mason just nods and they keep on moving….
Moving 'til the end.
Okay i'll update again when I can. peace
