The Girl's Class

Saturday came and I was all set for teaching the newly timed girl's class. I strolled down the promanade, I saw a few potential candidates for the class. I stopped them and said "hey, um, we're starting a new girl's surf class down on the beach on a couple of minutes, you don't need to know anything about surfing to join. You don't even have to have a surf board. What do ya say? Free trial?" Many of them turned me down, even after an adorably charming grin. Two best friends I had come on to had followed me down onto the beach. But they only talked to eachother along the way and never answered any of my questions. Good job they weren't important, just stuff like 'have you ever surfed before?' 'what are your names?' 'do you live near this beach?' They just giggled and carried on walking. That's enough to be considered rude in my books. We walked down onto the beach and they stood beside me. I pointed over to the class. "Everyone's standing over there if you can see, the man with them is Josh. If one of you goes to him he'll sort you out. And if someone wants to stay with me then I'll grab you a wetsuit. They looked at eachother, one said to the other. "I'll stay here if you want to go over there?" The other one nodded and raised her sunglasses, she started strolling over towards the sea where Josh was standing admiring the waves. I decided I'd explain that I'd roped in these people. "One sec." I said to the girl waiting beside me. I dashed down to Josh before the other girl could get to him first. I tapped him on the shoulder. "This is..." I waited for the girl to say her name but she didn't. "What's your name?" I said slowly, as you would to someone hard of hearing, but slightly sarcastically. She suddenly jumped into action. "Oh, my name's Ellie." I nodded, and smiled at her, she was chewing on the arm of her sunglasses. "They want too give the class a try." I grinned at Josh. He was always welcome to new customers. "Brill! I'll grab you some equipment and we'll get going!" I smiled and looked over at her friend waiting patiently on the sand at the top of the beach. "She has a friend too, what's her name?" I said to Ellie, Ellie wasn't very on the ball. She looked over at her friend and giggled. Not entirely sure why. "That's Georgia." She waved at Georgia and Georgia waved back at us. They would either turn out to be very nice. Or very, very annoying and inseperable. You know those types of friends. The ones who are completely and utterly joined at the hip and nobody bares to separate them. Josh nodded and sort of waved/saluted at Georgia, she covered her mouth and giggled. "If you get her set up then we'll be done and dusted quicker." Josh raised his eyebrows. "And get your board and wetsuit while you're up there yeah?" I started walking away. "Sure!" I started jogging and smiled and waved at Georgia. She seemed alright. I looked at her body, size, what size? XS, she was very petite. "I'm Beau. Georgia right?" She nodded and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. She was quite pretty, but she sort of looked like me? Which was a little odd. She was blonde, obviously, with shoulder length, dead straight hair, she was wearing a baggy pink, purple and white striped crop top with a white vest underneath, and very short shorts, since it was the summer, with white sandles pale yellow sunglasses. Ellie was wearing almost exactly the same but with a pale green and mint crop top, pale blue faded shorts and light blue sunglasses. Ellie had blonde hair too, but it was all matted, what do they call it, candlyfloss hair? And it had streaks of pink in, Georgia was much more subtle. "Do you mind coming to my beach hut, I need to grab my board." She grinned and stared down at the long lines of beach huts. "Sure thing, you have one? That's so cool! Which one is it?" I pointed to a light green one down at the end. "That plain one on the end. It's a family hut." I replied but kept from melting. She had an accent, American I think, I'm not sure, I only knew one other person with an accent like that. Rufus, he was Canadian, and so was his wife, and all his kids were born in Canada. Then they moved here. We'd talked about it before. I thought walking down the prom would be awkward with nothing to talk to, but this was an abvious conversation starter. "You're not from here are you?" She smiled and looked at the ground, slightly embarrassed I think, she ran her fingers through her hair. "Not originally no. But I've been living in England for 8 years now." I looked at her, she had dark bllue eyes, a perfect smile and a tiny nose. "Where are you from 'originally' then if you're not English?" We turned into where our hut was, I pulled the key out of the pocket in my shorts, I was wearing blue and green checked shorts with a grey polo shirt, unbuttoned right down. And green flip-flops."Canada." She grinned. "Winnipeg" I frowned, I thought she was just speaking complete gibberish to me. I had never heard of the place. "Winnipeg?" She laughed, when I said it, it sounded quite funny. We stepped into the hut and I grabbed my surfboard. "In Manitoba, one of the sunniest places in Canada at the moment." It was quite a coincidence how I knew two people from Canada in the same town. Pretty cool actually. I stepped out of the hut and locked up. "What size clothes do you take?" It seemed like an odd question but I needed to know to pick out a wetsuit. "Urm, 6-8, extra small. Why?" I hoisted my board up into a more comfortable position. "I need to know so I can get you the correct sized wetsuit is all. I'm a small so yeah, you're probably an extra small, if you get into surfing you can get your own... A-and a board!" She smiled. "This is just a free trial, I don't know whether my parents will be willing to pay for lessons." Surely her parents would have been willing for her to try new things. Mine always would be. "Well why not? You don't know that." She raised her eyebrows at me, we walked down off of the pier on those odd little steps. "I'm one of five, I have three sisters and a brother. And they all take paid calsses in different things. Lily and Dakota both take football, they're there now, Dakota's in goal, he's only 7 but he's epic, they're twins. Anna takes ballet, she's 4, and I always go to her recitals. And then Christina who's 9 does karate which is mega expensive because there's only one kids class around here." So, she was canadian, one of five. was this a creepy coincidence, or was she Rufus's son? But I could have sworn he had 5 sons. It was all very weird, and a shock to my mind. I wanted to find out if my suspicions were correct though so I asked "So, what do your parents do?" We were almost back at the class now, she looked at me as if to say 'why would you want to know that?' "Urm... Okayy, my Dad's just moved into the police force as of last week. And my Mum doesn't work, because she's pregnant with the latest Taylor baby." It wasn't Rufus's daughter I didn't think because he certainly wasn't a policeman last week unless he was part of the secret services. And I didn't know his last name. But Taylor didn't really suit him. I didn't want to seem odd and ask 'is your Dad Rufus.' Because that was weird and awkward. "So soon you're going to be one of six?" I asked, she nodded, and we wondered over to the hut, I grabbed one of the extra small wetsuits and my wetsuit. I pointed to another pink hut about 5 yards out. "That's the girl's changing rooms, go try that on for size." The XS ones had purple down the sides. She skipped off to get changed, I walked over to Josh. "So what are we doing today?" Josh looked out into the waves, squinting in the sunlight, he hesitated, he didn't generally plan his lessons exactly, he normally saw who showed up and made them up on a whim. "Urm, maybe get on the sea, the surf is quite good today, or we might just use the sim since it's the first week. Not sure." I nodded. "Cool."
