"Namjoon, what are you talking about?" Daechul stood from her seat, giving him a threatening glare. Her fists were clenched tightly, and her eyes were fire on him. She didn't understand what he was saying. They had been together—they were raised together—and she hadn't known anything different, or even considered anything different until now.
Namjoon stood firm, "It's true. I—I've wanted you to know for years, but I'm scared that you'll leave me. I don't want you to—"
"Why? Because if I do, Bangtan won't be as successful?" she spat, taking a step toward him.
"No...No! That's not it! You're all I have left of our family—"
"You just said that I wasn't. You waited all these years until now to tell me," she chuckled bitterly, "Now I understand why you brought me back here and why you kept me hidden. You wanted me to feel like I had to rely on you, so when I did find out I'd still feel like I had to. You're wrong though, you're wrong."
Namjoon watched as Daechul started to back away toward the doors. His worst fears were coming true. If she would only listen to him then maybe she would understand. She had to. He didn't want her to stick around for mafia reasons; he wanted her to stay because whether by blood or not, she was his sister. And he needed her.
"Daechul, please listen to me." He stood, coming near her, "Please just listen to me."
"I don't want to," she snapped, pushing past the doors. Daechul heard Namjoon's footsteps after her but she didn't dare look back. Rage flowed through her—she felt lied to, and rightfully so. But more than anything, she was scared. If Namjoon wasn't blood family to her, then who was? Did she have anyone?
"Daechul!" Namjoon called after her one last time, stopping as he watched his sister head to her room. The door slamming echoed through the hallway, and left him feeling torn. He wondered if he hadn't told her if she wouldn't have gotten upset so quickly. But then again, he reminded himself: he wasn't telling her that her pet died, he was telling her they weren't real siblings. They only grew up together. He had wanted to stress to her that it didn't change the fact that he still loved her like a sister. She needed to understand that.
Slowly sliding down to her bedroom floor, Daechul hugged herself. She tried to calm herself, but the shaky, gasping breaths made her more anxious. So many thoughts of doubt ran through her head and it started to ache. She didn't want this. She just wanted stability and she thought she had finally had it after they settled the situation with her father. And then Taehyung had come back from his trip and everything had been so wonderful—
Get yourself together, she told herself. She didn't know what to do except staying away from Namjoon. And there were a few ways to do that. Not wanting to think about his words to her, she quickly rose to her feet.
Entering her bathroom, she pulled up Hyunjin's contact on her phone and pressed the "call" button. There were a series of rings before the male answered.
"Hey," his voice spoke up, the sound of his car engine in the background.
"Can you come pick me up?"
Daechul placed her phone on the sink counter, pulling off her shoes and tossing them into her bedroom.
"Yeah, what's up?"
"I just want to leave this place," she muttered.
"...but haven't you been away from it this whole time?" The confusion was clear in his voice.
"That is irrelevant. Just come pick me up soon," she hung up, stripping herself of her clothes and entering the shower. Daechul tried to be speedy so she'd be ready to leave once Hyunjin arrived. In no time she was dressed again, this time in fresh clothes and looking decent again.
She grabbed a bag, stuffing some extra clothes inside along with some other items she might need or want. She didn't plan to be home for a few more days...or was this even home anymore? Daechul wasn't sure. The question was still being tossed around in her head by the time she reached the bottom of the staircase. As she was about to head to her office to collect some of her things, she passed the kitchen and suddenly remembered that she had been hungry and Yoongi was making her food.
Daechul paused, poking her head inside just in time to see the male setting a bowl of tteokbokki down onto the table. He stared at it for a moment before giving it a nod of approval. Yoongi turned and started to wash the saucepan he had just used.
"Done?" she entered, taking a seat in front of the bowl.
Yoongi just hummed a response, not looking back at her. He was in a seemingly quiet and content mood and she wondered if he had known about everything that Namjoon had just told her. Namjoon could easily trust Yoongi with something like that; Yoongi doesn't let secrets slip.
But, if Yoongi had known about everything, would he have still helped her get out of the arranged marriage her father had come up with? It hadn't been that long ago—just around six months. She also hadn't thought anything had changed between them, there was no reason to assume or think that Yoongi might be keeping things from her.
Shoving the thoughts away once more, she shoveled the food into her mouth in an attempt to finish it quickly. Hyunjin would be there soon and she still had to get what was hers before leaving.
A hand grabbed her wrist before she was able to take another bite.
"Slow down, you're gonna choke," Yoongi scolded, gently letting go and crossing his arms with a fake scowl. He shook his head, "ttsk"ing. "Now what's gotten into you?"
"I'm about to take flight again," Daechul resumed eating, this time at a slower pace so as not to worry him. "Just so you know. You probably won't be seeing much of me."
"Do I ever?"
"Even less."
"I'm not sure if that's concerning or relieving," he snickered.
"...I'm not sure either."
